Hey guys I have a question for the vets on this forum.

I recently purchased my first sks and am trying to understand the rifle and histort.. referbished un issued etc.

From what I have found on my rifle when I disassembled is that it is numbers matching from stock to barrel to bolt the entire rifle matches and it has a stamp for tula 1955. Serial number is cb followed by numbers.
Tell me what you guys think!

Just offhand looks like a lighter colored honey laminate which is a dead giveaway for late refurbished. Would need much more detailed pictures to say otherwise. But looks like a really nice one.

Need to see the metal and stock markings up closer, but looks very nice, I believe the later 1955 sks came in both solid birch and laminate! I have a couple 55!

I'm partial to wood SKS since you can redo the stock at anytime to look beautiful. I have 1 hardwood and 2 laminate. Any marks in the laminate seem to be much more permenant. Nice looking gun. Lots of SKS are avail on the market essentially it is a $200 gun unless somehow special. Matching/pretty/good shooting maybe a bit more. Keep it and shoot it. It will be worth something one day for your kids to use or sell.

Like everyone else is saying, it is a really nice looking but probably refurbished SKS. If you would like us to tell you more about your rifle, post pictures of
the top of the receiver cover and the front cross bolt area on the left hand side. Does your magazine serial number match? That is a bonus if it does.

My solid birch is non refurb everything matches except the mag, dang it, and my laminate is refurb, nice blueing stock is force matched!
I have two 55's as that is my birth year,,, yes I am older than dirt,,, and non refurbed!

Thanks for your replies everyone. It is a laminate stock and possibly the r beside the tula stamp stands for refurbished? I did not know the magazine would have a serial number I looked at it and that didn't match

The mag is pinned with a very small metal rod that was inserted into a hole. No welds and not fixed in place. You can see it in the upper picture it's the size of a toothpick lol but it is pinned for 5

Nice, your stock is new, mine was used/refurb, the difference is yours has your serial # stamped only and mine has the old # ### out and the new # stamped under it so yours looks cleaner, should be tight!

Enjoy shooting. The SKS is nice has little recoil and is overall a fun shooting gun. Light/Cheap easy to maintain and of higher quality than any Remington 700 or similar 700 to 1000 gun today. It may not be the most conducive to accuriz8ng with scopes etc. .m though it is possible. Still for an out of the box iron sighted gun at approx $200 you cannot do better.

Yes they are light, if an SKS is too heavy for you to carry hunting or around you should check in with your doctor or grow a pair. I hunt with a k98 yugo mauser for moose and an SKS or mauser for deer with Irons. I feel that 8 to 10 lbs is a realistic wt for a rifle. Plus it's great exercise walk a little
