I saw an ad for Marlin's 336 lineup from 1957. Some interesting info:

336-SD (Sporter Deluxe) .30-30, .32 Special and .35 Rem. - 3/4 length magazine, 20" barrel, hand checkered, monte-carlo stock, leather sling - $89.95 ($704.51 in today's money).

336-SC (Sporter Carbine) .30-30, .32 Special and .35 Rem. - 3/4 length magazine, 20" barrel - $76.95 ($602.69 in today's money).

336 - 219 Zipper - same as SC - $76.95 ($602.69 in today's money).

336-C (Carbine) - same as SC except full length magazine - $76.95 ($602.69 in today's money).

336 Texan - .30-30 and .35 Rem. - fast handling saddle model - straight grip, full length magazine, 20 " barrel - $76.95 ($602.69 in today's money).
 
1957 prices for guns.....

I think in 1957 my Dad made about $1.25 per hour as a carpenter. So, $77 was a lot of money, even back then.

My Mom tells a story that he bought a WWI vintage S&W Handejector .455 revolver one time back then for the princely sum of $50 when that $50 would've paid for a full tank of furnace oil to heat the house. She was really pissed at him at the time for that one.

I'm kinda glad he did though as he gave me what old wheelgun about 30 years later and I still have it today:

NAA - that is really nice! The story behind it is great too - I guess it was easier to get forgiveness than permission.

I found some more old ads and it is interesting to convert the prices to today's money - a Husqvarna Lightweight in 1955 went for about the equivalent of $1200.
