Hi there all, new here, from the Barrie Ont area....
So I just aquired a beautiful 1968 Browning Type 1 , Grade 2 BAR, the one with the receiver engraving, it is nearly mint and just in beautiful condition.

Here is my question, it came with the original Browning 2 3/4 branded scope, the first thing I did was remove it because I am going to use the BAR for its iron sights in the bush.... BUT I was curious to know if this (I believe) original 1968 Browning scope and rail mount is actually worth anything from an authentic or original/collectable stand point. I have many scopes, but I doubt if I would ever mount this one other than to put it back on the BAR for the "cool" factor alone....

I am not a Browning enthusiast although I do have a few of their older beautiful pieces that I admire .... Thoughts?

I’d tuck it in a safe place with a tag on it from where it belongs.
A hundred years from now someone may thank you for it.

I love the high quality of especially older Browning Rifles made by FN and been using a BA Safarie Grade for almost 50 years in commercial hunting.

There are Browning Collectors which I am sure would want to get there Hands on your Scope and Mounts, but if I where you I hang onto it you may regret selling it later.

Cheers

I agree with both of you, on tucking it away, I will tell you it was quite a challenge to UN-mount it with tiny slot screws, not being a gunsmith, but handy, I bought some hard slot head bits, and had to use a smallish (1/4") impact driver, to reverse drive them out. Worked like a charm. I wanted to get plugs for the tapped holes, it proved a bit tricky to find them but realized that they are a #6-48 screw/bolt that is almost exclusively used in firearms.... same plugs fit my remington 760 tapped holes.

Is this the scope that has no turrets? The scope itself has no windage or elevation adjustments? Is it the scope mount itself that makes the adjustments?

No the scope has turrets, but the scope mount is a one piece full length unit with both rings mounted on the base....

I've got a fixed 4x scope with no turrets. It's a one-piece base with integrated rings. The base has adjustments for windage and elevation. Also on a vintage BAR.
I'd love to know more about its history, in mint condition too. I'm assuming 1960's?

Well I thought the first year of production was either 1967 or '68, the two I bought seemed like they ar both 68's.
