Hey guys,

Im still new to all this so bear with me, i aquired a 1978 ithaca m37 featherlite 12g 2 3/4 . Pretty sure its a 28inch barrel with no tubes

What brand/type of shot can i use in this for say duck hunting or target shooting

High brass / low brass does it matter?
Lead shot or steel shot?

Thanks alot

You can pretty much figure that it's not steel shot capable. And, it's limited to 2 3/4" shells so...not really a waterfowl gun.

A gunsmith can open the choke though and possibly do a long forcing cone mod to open the barrel up for steel...but if you were to buy a new 870 Express, it would already have removable chokes, be set for steel and take 3" or 3 1/2" shells too. (if you buy the right model)

I love Ithacas, don't get me wrong...it's just that they've fallen behind the times a bit.

Thanks guys,

One more thing, i cannot find any markings on the gun to tell me what type of choke this barrel has . Any ideas?

I would hazard a guess it's full. I had my LGS open up the choke on mine, didn't cost much, and shot a ton of ducks with it when it was my only option. Also deer, rabbits grouse etc. a nice gun, very slick action. Lead shot should be good as is. Have a smith have a look if you're unsure.
