Excellent scopes for a hunting rifle, particularly a light to med weight carry rifle.
Thank guys z I bloody figured it would of been a decent model but I was a bit scared due to my counterfeit purchase the other week (was refunded) an thought...F itz let's Go brand New.. warranty etc....
Who knows what old mates second hander had been through an be reminded it's off a Online classified so sight unseen except some photos emailed thru..

most of the time is needed long before a life time the fact the a scope from 1991 is better than most scopes made today proves its quality here is a real life time warranty if you bought that scope you could have put it in a box sent it to north industries they would go thru it clean it set the paralex made sure it functioned like new and sent it back to you prepaid
that's a warranty i have sent leupold from the 60's back and had them serviced free of charge
so to all the guys out there that buy by replacement warranty that is a sales catch

You can only check the serial number on scopes manufactured after their swap to digital records, somewhere around 2004 IIRC.
Earlier scopes are buyer beware but if you do your due diligence and purchase from reputable people there are some fantastic deals on the older Leupold VariX III, VX-II, VX-III, VX-2 & VX-3 scopes.
Just find one that isn’t all marked or scratched up, if it looks new it will likely work as new and the warranty is still applicable if it doesn’t.
Lots of older hunters who bought high quality gear who looked after it are timing out and forced to leave the sport without anyone to leave it to so it’s a good time to consider investing in these basically bespoke items instead of purchasing the latest price point marketed retail item…
I do like the VX3HD line with the CDS-ZL and the VX-5 with CDS-ZL2 but those dials you’ll likely never use or need comes at a hefty price point over an older used scope. If you can afford it, great. If the budget is limited though I’d rather save by buying the older used scope that is quality kit over buying a (perceived) lesser quality scope however, YMMV.

isnt there loopholes with not registering your product an therefore not having the warranty, an or not having receipts or some ####?
im kind of thinking of selling the vx freedom, but at the same time, i got reply from leupold regarding the custom cds will have a zero stop feature, which entertains me.
i will leave in box for a while until something suitable will wear it- maybe the partners 308 franchi or perhaps another kimber but in a hunter

Mount it, sight it and forget it...I have a whack of the VariXlll 2.5-8 and they never have let me down...The older ones had smoother variable power ring although the blue glass is not quite as bright as the green...Tough compact bullet proof scope for sure.
I don’t know how it is in Australia; but in Canada and the US they don’t need to have the warranty registered to an owner. The guy that did (or once did) all the warranty work for Canada was and perhaps still is a member here. He worked on them 2 days a week. Most common issue on returns was that there was nothing wrong with it
Usually easy enough to spot the fakes in person, or with quality photos.
I too prefer the rugged reliability of the older Leupolds and do not hesitate to buy the Vari- X III, VX-III or VX-3 versions in 2.5-8x36, 3.5-10x40, or 4.5-14x40 (mostly with the B&C reticles).
As my eyes start to age, I am finding it nice to have the illuminated reticles, and have now acquired a number of VX-R and VX-5 and 6 HD scopes with either the FireDot or Illum. B&C reticles. Huge advantage when aiming at moose and bears in the thick, dark timber! To date, these have proven reliable for me.
While the latter have the CDS turrets, I am a range and shoot vs range, dial, and shoot hunter, and have yet to order a turret for a particular cartridge, load and elevation, as I hunt such varied terrain, elevations and weather conditions.
The B&C has worked very well for me when I have needed it in the field. (I also verify all of my loads at the range and practice using them regularly before heading afield on any hunt.) If I were a prairie dweller and hunted there more often, I would likely use a turret more.
