1998 Mausers

Mig25, it would hav been pretty close to that IIRC. Trying to recall deals I did then with Germans, and can't pull a number out of the fog. But around that.

Probably contains refurbished parts from Russian Captures. In any event, it's a novel idea, but I wouldn't pay that money for a copy of a milsurp firearm that's readily available

Now if they were repro-ing rare variants or making fine Mauser 98 sporters, that'sd be something else entirely.

i agree

maybe some g43's 41's or g33/40's, but a modern built k98k is just not worth it.

I was thinking along those lines, or maybe some Kar98az's or high-turret sniper K98k's or possibly some WW1 era Gew98 snipers, etc. That sort of thing. Not just a run of the mill wartime pattern K98k...

Ahem.... those rifles were produced on brand new parts by Mauser, for Mauser...

... In case any of you ever have.... difficulties and can-not find an immediate supply of little blue pills one trip to the Mauser website should help.

I think to compare the Mauser G98 to a 300$ Yugo milsurp or some other beater is to miss the point. Various companies brought out rifles in 1998 to commemorate the 1898, some like the G98 were all new, others like some marketed by Frankonia Jagd (IIRC) were assembled on old DWM/Mauser recievers, rebarrelled with new wood and fixtures etc. The fact that Mauser decided to honour the design by building new units to me moves these guns out of the milsurp bin, and places them in a category of thier own as new collectables.
To me the Mauser made ones were akin to Mercedes going back and building brand new Gullwing. It may not be a half million dollar original, but it still isn't a chevette either

As for the shooters, well I wouldn't have blamed anyone for buying one. The idea of a cometically accurate K98, in 308, that is built around new metal, and new wood is actually appealing to me. And given the choice between some old beat up K98 with a frosted bore, a Remington 700, or one of the 308 K98s....I'd choose the later.

Same idea as the P08 Lugers that were reproduced in the 1970's by Mauser, such as the Mauser-Parabellum 29/70 and 06/73.

Didn't some company in Oz start making new enfields for about $3000 CDN?

Uh, I with I could still get that watch in the accessories section of the mauser site. That thing is seriously sweet, yet attempting to get it means dealing with R. Nicholls and as most people know that's a dead end.

The M98 Magnum and M98 go for around $12-14,000 (Cdn) before accessories.

The M03 is around $3,500 if I recall correctly.

I was looking into these last year. When I got the prices, I actually died, choking to death on my own dismay. I was revived on a surgical table, but only after I'd left my body and got the chance to fondle the M98 in the etheric realms. It was so nice, I'm now trying to dig up $14k…
