Managed to fill my general season whitetail late on Sunday with a huge doe, a real nice, healthy deer. Nothing too spectacular, rough distance measure was almost 200 yds before winding me then turning back again at a weak fawn call. Dropped right there with a single shot to the boiler-room.

I have to say that I'm very impressed with two things from this hunt: the very gracious land-owner that let myself and 2 bow hunters (separate hunting party) onto her property. I haven't figured out a meaningful way to thank her yet but she is fine with hunting and was full of great info regarding her property and the animals she was seeing. Words don't seem enough to properly convey the gratitude for the opportunity.

The second thing was the 100 ATR that I used on this deer. To quote Dr. Evil: "it's a fricken laser, people". I shouldn't "pimp" this rifle here as I've only shot my own and it may be the exception but I wish my other rifles would do groups like this one with factory ammo.

A good day!:dancingbanana:

congrats on your take.you could thank her in a few ways
1- offer her some of the meat
2- offer to help out with some of the work that needs to be done
3-a verbal thank you
keep in touch through out the year with her just not only a week or so before you want to hunt

I agree with DumbDawg on this one. We should all make a point of taking care of all private landowners that let us hunt on their private property. I find it's the little things that go a long way. Things like Christmas cards, remembering special occasions, try to find out what the person likes. A bottle of wine or box of chocolates, a donation to their favorite charity, the list is endless. I can tell from your post that you don't take this access for granted which is a good thing.
Oh & congrats on taking a nice doe. What caliber is your ATR?

George

Congrats on the nice eater...should be a good one to chew on this winter! A 40 pounder of Crown often goes a long way in regards to landowner/hunter relations. If not so inclined then a gift certificate to a better eating establishment is another option.

I agree with DumbDawg as well. I did verbally thank her a number of times for allowing my access but it doesn't seem like enough as she came out and held the flashlight while I cleaned the doe and then offered me the use of her quad to drag it up close to the gate for loading. We discussed my helping her re-roof her small greenhouse but she was full of "oh don't worry, I'm just glad you had some success" etc. That may still be the route I take, the roof on the greenhouse. It certainly is a great piece of property with mixed fields and bush and I'd love to be able to come back to it again.

As for the Mossy, it's in 30-06 and loves 150 grn rounds. I'm not sure what the other calibers are like in this model but I certainly lucked out with an accurate rifle at a great price.

huge doe, a real nice, healthy deer. Nothing too spectacular

I concider every deer harvested "Spectacular" weather its a doe a buck or a fawn they all are great and I have come to hate the saying when some one asks if you got a deer and most reply well "just a doe not the buck I was looking for".....ect....who cares meat is meat.....

congrats on the harvest I would love to see a pic if you have one!

I like M12 shooters idea of a gift certificate, maybe a local beauty shop.I know my old lady always loved that sort of thing.

Just be careful who you tell if you do that. It could be construed as paying for permission, which is illegal here. Saying thanks is a good way of doing it, or getting some sausage made from the deer and dropping off a few links in a nice giftbasket, with a thank-you card.
