Had 60 rounds of ammo... (indoor range, no milsurp allowed so they cost me 60$ with tax) fired about 30 rounds with no problems, then 1 failure to feed. Another 14 rounds, no problems. Then it decides it has had enough. I had about 5 failures to feed in a row, did a visual inspection,, seemed ok. Tried again and again,Failure to feed. Dry fired it a few times,, no problems, seemed ok. Reloaded it a few times with different bullets within same box of ammo (had no more ammo anyhow so couldn't try another box or type).. Failure to feed. Boooo...

Ammo is PMC Bronze, gonna take it apart tonight see what I can find out, let's hope I know what I'm looking at, rofl. Gun was completely clean of cosmolene, all metal parts were cleaned in varsol, by hand and break cleaner. Any thoughts?
 
How was it FTF'ing? Was the rd. jamming on the way into the chamber? Were you pulling the bolt back and letting it go? Trying to gently feed rds in will usually cause it to jam.

Yes round was jamming like half way into the chamber,, and bolt was extremely hard to pull back. I was pulling back and letting go, trying to see if it would cause a slam fire. I couldn't visually see anything wrong, then again bolt would close like 90% of the way, so I couldn't see much anyway.

Just stripped it down,,, nothing stuck in chamber! Firing pin and bolt are fine,, Magazine housing seems very loose to me, i can move The mag assembly maybe a quarter inch side to side, this normal? Can't remember if it did this before. Thx guys

I'm now realizing that even with no rounds in mag,, if I gently guide bold closed, it will not close all the way, this was causing the FTF, if I let go it is fine. But this is with no round.....

If their IS a round in the mag, the bolt Doesn't close all the way, weather i guild it or let it slam shut on its own. Stays jammed slightly open. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thx all
 
Its normal for the bolt to hang up just before full battery when closing it gently as this is where the rear of the bolt drops into its shelf to lock in place. But if its stopping there when chambering a round aggressively then I feel there is either an issue with the chamber not allowing a rd. to fully chamber, the remaining rounds are out of spec (least likely) or there is an issue in the action pertaining to the bolt locking. Field strip the action and get down in there to be sure the chamber is clear, it can be difficult to spot a piece of casing in a dirty chamber. Also find the shelf that the bolt drops into and have a look for anything out of place. You can even remove the magazine assembly and reasemble without it to try closing the bolt while looking up thru the magwell to see where the bolt might be hanging up. Good luck and post back
 
interresting. my first thought was cosmoline, but then i continued reading and saw you are a smartie. was the gun lubed after it was cleaned?

Yea field stripped it again, cleaned everything, but it all seems ok, chamber very clear and barrel very clean, didn't know it was normal for bolt to do that.. Will relub everything and return to the range sometime this week/early next. Thx so much for the info.
 
I had the same problem but it turned out to be a seperated case stuck in the chamber that I could hardly see. But I knew something wasn't right because it was FTF and everybody knows most SKSs run flawlessly.So I stopped shooting. It can be behind a small ridge in the chamber. Short of that I had a problem where the round was mangled by the bolt and the bolt would jam hard. I changed mags and it stopped
 
Clean the chamber with acetone, and get the gas piston and tube clean and run it dry. Lube the carrier bolt and action well. Also strip the bolt and degrease it and run the internals dry. If you fired it without cleaning the cosmoline out of the chamber and gas system it will be baked on and very hard to remove.
 
I've done everything suggested on here, and then some... The bolt still won't close all the way when their is a round in the chamber. If their is NO round loaded, it works great.. As soon as I place a round.. Bolt no longer slams all the way shut.. So I'm reduced to guessing their is something stuck inside the bore?

Can anyone tell me how far inside the barrel a round can enter if you do it by hand? Not sure that's a clear question, lol. If u open the bolt, and place a round directly inside the barrel (bypassing the magazine) how far does that round enter? Or how much of that rounds primer end sticks out? Thx guys....this is getting frustrating, lol
 
They sell a light at the club which fits in the chamber so when u look down the barrel you can check if sometthing is stuck, i have stuck case remover for 7.62*39.
Next time you at the club ask the guys behind the counter to check the chamber is clear
