So...

I bought my range and carry kit back before Christmas, and it has taken this long for all the legal paperwork to finally go through. So today was the big day...

About 10:30am, until approx 13:00, hovering around 0 to 3c, sunny with some clouds, little North breeze (from my back)...all in all, good weather conditions. Firing at approx 20m using: Remington, American Eagle, Winchester, and MFS...750 rounds shot in total at first outting using 6 S&W M&P mags. I am supposed to get 10, but could only get 9 rds in each...?

Initial impressions: Shooting off bench, 2 handed grip, the MP felt good in the hand, natural, with no pinch points. At first shot, trigger felt good, and not too heavy...keep in mind, I have no comparison. I don't remember what box was first, but first 50 rds on target were low. Same with next 50. 3rd 50 I started aiming high to compensate.

Only 1 fail to fire from a Winchester, and no FTF and/or FTE. Brass was thrown clean and free to my right.

2 handed, elbows on table around 650 rd count, brought the group in together and gave a better sense of where to aim. Was able to get a couple of bulls, but trigger squeeze needs some (aka ALOT) of work. And I will start using only 1, ro 2 brands of ammo and see if the grouping starts to get consistant. I was happiest with the Remington, and American Eagle

So...final verdict, I had a blast. Easy to shoot, easy to handle, easy to control, and easy to get follow up shots/aim. 9/10

FWIW: The speed loader made a HUGE difference..10/10.

I did NOT clean before, but will now with proper lube. I am planning on getting back out in a couple of weeks, so I will update at that time.

A speed loader helps a lot! Some pistol mags can be pretty tight, just need to work them in.... The good news is, that means you get to shoot more :)

but what was the humidity? :p

Congrats! M&P9 is a nice gun.

Gonna pick up the range kit when I get my RPAL.

How do you store it? I've seen a couple vids on the kit and it looks like the holster would not fit the handgun with a trigger lock on it. I was kinda hoping just to store the handgun in the case it comes in, without having to buy a brand new one. Also can you store boxes of ammo in the case?

I was hoping this too:D
For me it's handgun in safe, everything else in range bag, case on basement shelf, locking briefcase for range trips. There are $20 cases you can buy that are deep enough to store ammo under the pistol foam. I've really got to get out and shoot this thing some more...

Can't afford a safe right now, so best I can do is trigger lock the handgun, buy a seperate case to store the handgun and lock that one.

Something I've always been confused on, hopefully someone can answer: can I keep my ammo under the foam, the handgun on top, so long as I have the gun trigger locked and the case locked as well? Both would be in the same case

As to the 9 rounds in the mag. I left the mags loaded with 10 rounds for about 6 weeks and they are much better. Still a little tight but it now fits 10

For mags that are tough to get the 10th round in. Is it possible to take the follower out and sand the bottom part that limits how far it goes down?

It worked for me. The tenth round now fits like the ninth; not as easy as the eighth, but much better than standing on the loader, thinking I'm going to break it.
I've got pics somewhere...here we go:

Take off an 1/16" at a time and check it. I took off about 3/16"

Disclaimer: Be careful. If you go too far (I really don't see how this is possible, please don't make an effort to prove me wrong), Brownell's sells followers for 2 bux.

I store the whole kit, as is, in a proper safe. The holster must be set aside to get the trigger lock on.

IMO, there is NOT enough room, with all the other kit to keep any ammo in it. And, there are other people who know the legalities better than I, but I don't THINK you can store like that...even if there was enough room.

****

Humidity was low...smartass!

Storing Firearms Safely

Unload and lock your firearms!
Store the ammunition separately or lock it up. It can be stored in the same locked container as the firearm.

Restricted and prohibited firearms

Attach a secure locking device so the firearms cannot be fired and lock them in a cabinet, container or room that is hard to break into; or
Lock the firearms in a vault, safe or room that was built or modified specifically to store firearms safely.
For an automatic firearm, also remove the bolt or bolt carrier (if removable) and lock it in a separate room that is hard to break into.

So I did this 'fix' and now I CAN get 10, albeit tight, rounds in a mag.

However...

I CANNOT fit a mag with 10 rounds in the gun. Huh? Yup...10 rds won't go in, 9rd mags, no problem...

So...ideas?

No answers?
File a little more off, until that tenth round has a little give in it? Mine fit 10 1/4. I do have to slam the mag home though.

Use more force. My new .40cal mags are tight as a drum with 10 but still will load, with effort, when the slide is down.
Good purchase. The M&P's are fine guns. Have two, may get one more.

Take Care
