Well I just found a new supply of 1xf pistol brass.... :dancingbanana: :dancingbanana: :dancingbanana:

I was talking to a buddy and he knows where the local LE takes all of their range brass...

To a local scrap dealer!! He just sends it away to be melted down!!!!

I called and they said if I want I am allowed to come down there and sort (apparently there is no ryme or reason to how they police their brass) through the brass barrells (apparently they have 4 or 5 45gallon drums full of brass) and pay just $2 per lb for 1xf brass!!!!!

Guess what I am on my way there now!.... I guess I am going to find out how much 1000 rnds of 9mm weighs! ;)

No I am not telling anyone where it is untill I get my Share!!!!!! :D:D:D

Cheers!

Alas there is no .223..... top it off the guy was mistaken its $3.50 for scrap brass..... I talked them down to $2.75 (using the excuse that it is not all brass b/c of the primers in the brass......

All in all I netted 51lbs of 9mm & .40 brass all 1xf, some was in good shape, some in bad. they had already shipped out the rifle brass this load is slated fro shipment by the end of the week.

I spent 3hrs of my day-off sorting brass in a junkyard just to get a deal..... I may be the cheapest man alive!! lol :D

By the time I had to leave I had sorted 23lbs of 9mm, 8lbs of .40 and I filled a bucket with mixed 9mm & .40...... I don't even own a .40!!!! (the things you will do for range buddies!)

cheers!

Don't bet on it :D Some of the guys at the Genesee range know my butt better than my face because of all the time I spent with my head in the brass barrels LOL!!!! :D

So I have it all sorted now & I have 21 lbs of .40 and 30lbs in 9mm. 9mm weighs in at 9.2 lbs per 1000 and the .40 weighs in at 10.6 per 1000.

There is a bit of nickle plated stuff in there as well, I was thinking I would seperate it as it is "differnet", but how different?

Should I be really concerned about keeping it seperated? How will nickle last as opposed to brass?

nickle brass

nickle brass seems to split sooner but don;t sweat it if your selling it for a reasonable price along with the rest .

I dunno, @ 3.50 per lb (thats their normal price) 1000 .40 will cost me $37.00 and I can sell for what?.... $50.00 per 1000 less the time & $$ to sort & tumble.... I'm probably loosing money.... 9mm is a little less $$ per 1000 say $30.00 & sell for $40.00..... not much room for profit.....

I went to my local g-store (they sell 1xf brass for $10-100 9mm & $13-100 .40) and he said he would buy the .40 off of me for .02 ea or $20-1000..... ummmm no!! My bud will at least pay my cost on the stuff!

What really irks me is the salvage guy buys it for $.60 per lb..... and sells it for $3.50 per lb......

Now if I can get it for $.60 per lb I could probably start my own business! :D All I gotta do is become a Junk dealer!!

I may do it to cut costs & help out some buddies but as a side job.... no way!!

Cheers!

I tried that, I was told that they are only allowed to sell their scrap brass to the salvage yard. They did this to keep all the "Tom, #### & Harrys" from bugging them.

Besides 9mm is pretty much a thing of the past, they all shoot .40 Glocks now.... Once in a while the tactical unit shoots off their SMG's (9mm) and that is where the 9mm I found comes from..... I had to sort through a bunch of .40 to get to the 9mm.... I am really considering a .40 now......

Cheers
