Sharptail, What's going on with the Strathcona Range. My wife thought she heard on the news that they might have come accross some provincial money to set -up again. ??

What's so special about those 20 gauge shells you're looking for? Shorter in length? - old gun?

Sharptail,

Unless they were sold in the last 2 weeks Wholesale Sports in Edmonton has about a half dozen boxes on their shelf. If you call they won't know what you're talking about, but they are there. When you go into the store turn right at the gun counter and go just past the door into the back area, second shelf from the top. They are Gamebore Traditional Game, 2 1/2", 7 shot, yellow box. I know they were there because it is what is left of a flat that I had them order in when I needed four boxes last fall. I noticed they were still there on June 22nd when I was in there last. Not exactly flying off the shelf, but thats probably partly because none of the counter people know they are there. I have the pressures of them around here somewhere if you need them. I was planning to pick up a couple of boxes the next time I got down to Edmonton.

North, thanks, they are the last place I would have expected to have them. I'll check it out today. My barrels are CIP spec, I am not worried about pressure in this case. Thanks again.

walmart, my wife got me a box by accident last year, they wouldent exchange them so i just bought a new gun:)

Does anyone know of a source of 2 1/2" 20 ga. ammo on the West Coast? I've got a 1913 M12, 20 ga that would be a pleasure to hunt with. It's the perfect starter gun for my boy. I don't want to open the gun up as it'll spoil it. My American friends and relatives tell me Game Bore is $85 to $90 a flat in the US. A flat is 10 boxes (250 shells).

my mistake it was 2 3\4 inch 20 gauge. sorry call any ways you never know
couldnt you just load your own and cut the shell back?

Reid134, I can make 2 1/2 inch 12 gauge shells in a "nitro - for - black" low pressure configuration, but am not set up for 20 gauge, CIP spec. Let me tell you that there is more to it than just cutting back the hulls!

North of 58's lead paid off (thanks again, North), so I am set for grouse season in any case.

A rumour from "a reliable source" states that both 20 and 16 gauge shorties will be in stock at P&D in Edmonton "sometime this summer". If you have the need for these kind of shells, stock up while you can. If you don't, leave them for those who need them. These are old fashioned shells with felt wads and no shot cup - great for shooting grouse in cattle country, but they will foul the barrel of your 870.

That's odd. Our friendly local Kent rep told me there won't be another shipment until January.

If anyone knows where 16 ga can be found in 2 1/2, I'm still looking.

Sorry SS, P&D had 4 boxes of the 16 gauge last fall and I cleaned them out. I had the same response from the dealers (on order, not available at this time) last year when I was trying to buy a flat of the 12 gauge shells. I called Kent and confirmed they had plenty in stock and no orders in the system. I took the stock number and called around to find someone who would bring them in since Kent wouldn't sell to individuals. Finally Russel Sports in Calgary placed the order for me. It wasn't cheap since I had to pay for the individual shipping to Russel and up to High Level, but I finally got them. I have short chambered guns in 10, 12, 16, and 20 and it is always a hassle to find factory shells for them. I'm to the point where I'm considering starting a business so I can buy the shells direct and resell to others in the same bind. At least that way I would have a steady supply. It might not be the Kent/Gamebore brand. There are some excellent manufacturers in the U.S. that also make vintage shells, and they have the short 10's as well.

The situation does appear to be getting worse since last year, North. When I called Kent this year, they offered the name of a dealer who had Gamebore in stock. The dealer that was mentioned is here in Edmonton, so I went there during lunch that same day. IIRC, you beat me to it (you snooze, you lose).

Any dealer or individual that made an effort to stock 2 1/2" shells would have a steady clientele, IMO. If you decide to bring some in or you run across someplace that has them in stock, please look me up.
