I have a Beretta A301magnum, but found a barrel in 2-3/4. My question is can you turn the 2-3/4 into a 3" chamber without compromising the barrel? The barrel that I had before was 3", and when I put them side to side they looked to be the same dimension.

I take that you want to be able to shoot 3" magnums in the 2 3/4" barrel you have found. The short answer is no. The gas ports in the 2 3/4" barrel would be too large and shooting 3" magnum ( even with the chamber properly lengthened) would beat your gun to death. The 2 3/4" barrel will run perfectly on your 301 Magnum with 2 3/4" shells.

You would have to not only lengthen the chamber but also play with the gas ports. I drilled and tapped one of the gas ports on a similar barrel and plugged it with a set screw lock-tighted into the hole. Lots of playing around and seemed to work ok.
