Does anyone know where a person can find 2.75" bismuth shells in 12 ga? I need some #2 and #4. Russell's catalogues them but they never have, nor do they now, have any in stock. There's a Model 21 I want to get back in the action and I need Bismuth to do it.

Thanks

I wasn't sure if the Tungsten Polymer was safe to use in old full choked guns. This bears further investigation. I like Kent's shells anyways.

Sirmail list a 3.5" bismuth load for $22.99, if they have a 2.75" load it should be cheaper.

Wholesale list the Kent TM at $21.99 but after getting it delivered it probably get pretty pricey.

One also could do bismuth handloads - Russell's does have shot available for one to use in making their own handloads, but it's pricey - last time I looked, about $119.00 for a 7 pound jug of bismuth shot.

Still going to pay the piper, no matter how one does it.

:( Please do not use Bismuth for anything. While it weighs well, it shatters like glass on anything mildly solid, this includes goose feather stalks! Take a Bismuth pellet and give a moderate hit with a hammer. It shatters! Try that with any Kent or Federal Tungsten polymer load.

Here is a very easy set up for testing shot including various target loads for hardness (PS harder pellet, usually denser patterns!):
Cut a 1 foot tube of 1 inch PVC pipe. Get a 1 inch long 3/4 dia. steel rod. Find a 1/2 inch steel plate of 2 X 2 inches. Drill a slight indent in the middle. Insert a pellet of your choosing in the indent and cover with tube. Drop the steel rod from the top of the tub and watch the results. Bismuth shatters, tungsten/polymer deforms slightly, tungsten/iron does not, a certain Cdn target load goes flat, some promo shells do better than others and the more expensive target loads barely deform!:)

Best regards,
Henry;)

Another vote for Kent Impact. Just fine in your Mod. 21.

You may find a better price for 2-3/4" - 1-1/4 No. 3's or 5's
( for ducks ) or 2-3/4" - 1-3/8 No. 1's for geese.
Last I looked, they didn't offer either 2's or 4's in Tungsten Matrix.

As a recommendation, I've found Kent Impact 2-3/4 - 1-1/4 - 3's to be entirely adequate on geese out to 40 yards. They pattern great, and for
my money, are superior to lead. Steel, no way ..and Bismuth, No thanks !

Tm

I have found that with a Mod choke the number 5 shot can be an excellent early season goose killer as well, the only triple I ever got was an opening day4 season ago, with the old A5 and 1 1/4 oz #5 T M. FS

Bismuth

DO NOT CONFUSE KENT TUNGSTEN MATRIX AND THE FEDERAL T/POLYMER !!!!
The kent can be shot in virtually any nitro proofed barrell with any choke. The Federal can only be used in modern steel shot approved bls and with modified chokes or lighter.

Well I bit the bullet and bought the last 15 boxes of #3 Kent Tungsten Matrix from Russell's. The Old Man better appreciate it and get that old gun back in the action. I'll likely spend most of the time banging away with steel in my Browning Gold. I'm not a good enough shot to justify the expense of the exotic shot, but it's worth it to me just to get the Old Man back out in the muck with his Model 21. Just as it should be.

Good on 'ya B.U.M. !

And I never feel sorry for a guy with a nice Mod. 21, no matter
how he came by it. Same as a guy with his own airplane !

The cost might hurt, but the ammo IS Top Drawer stuff !.
The Mod. 21 will love it.

 Grouse, you are off on the Federal stuff. The old Tungsten/Iron is not to be shot in full choke or non/steel prooffed barrel. The Tungsten/Polymer and variants can be shot in any lead type barrel, as like the Kent TM! You can verify this at th Federal Cartridge website! http:www.federalcartridge.com

As I hunt many, many days Canadas, I use in the early season through Octoober BB, 3 inch 1450 fps +. November and late season birds (Migs), have extra down and fat. I use maybe a first shot of BB, but usually a Tungsten in #2 or bigger depending on availability.:p

Best regards,
Henry;)
