So I have a nice 1982 beretta o/u but it only has 2.75" chambers. I did alittle digging and found out that as long as the choke have SP steel proof on them then beretta say it's good to go with steel shot even though the barrels are not stamped SP,
So I'm happy to use steel in them with the more open chokes that say SP on them but are 2.75" steel shotshells any good or will they be aliitle light for geese? I won't be dooing alot of w/fowl but do want to work the dog befor upland starts.

If all you're doing is pass shooting you may want to invest in the high density shot such as Tungstenmatrix or Fiochi tundra if you can find it. I have never had an issue with 2 3/4 steel for geese inside of 40 yards, I use kent Fassteel either 1 1/8 or 1 1/16 oz usually 1's or 2's but thats just me I do prefer 3" as an all around shell length for waterfowl.

My go to goose load is the old Federal Classic Steel 2 3/4", 1 1/4oz #1 shot @ 1275fps. I bought up a large amount of it +10 years ago before they stopped producing it. With that load I've shot even the bigest Canada Geese (Atlantic and Giant) out to 62yards...so a 2 3/4" steel load does indeed kill and it kills very well I might add! The secret is placing the pattern on the bird. Placing more steel behind the bird is still a miss or worse, a cripple!

I dropped a nice Canada from about 25 yards up using #3 from a 2-3/4" shell. Was duck hunting at the time and that's what was in the chamber. I opt for a lighter payload but higher speed. IC and Mod would work great, as long as you keep them 30-35 yards.

Thanks guys I will keep my eye open for some tungstem loads but for the amount I'll do steel will work for now. Hopefully I will be able to afford a newer beretta O/U one day and not have to worry.
