I have two Springfield barreled actions for M1 Garands, they are stripped actions. I have had them for years, actually I can't remember when I got them or where.
I was wondering if I should restore them or sell them???

How much are they worth?

What should I look for when I inspect them?

Are there any telltale signs of wear?

How do I check the barrels and what should I look for?

Is it worth more if the barrel is original or a replacement?

Are they of interest if they are stripped?

I looked at them and they have 1954 barrels. One of the barrels has lots of pitting on the top. The receivers are VG.
I will probaby sell the pair for $500. Or trade them for military firearms. Any one with a Mas rifle, or a good Mauser, or an Enfield, or a US firearm will be welcomed.

Nah, they're junk. ;) , but since I'm a nice guy, and your gonna get rid of them anyways, you can send one to me and I'll "get rid" of it for you.

On a more serious note, the last bare M1 action I saw, they asked 175 for and I'm still kicking my self for not buying it.

Value depends on condition. While the condition of the finish is not a big deal, corrosion is. Is there any visible pitting on the receiver? How's the bolt? any pitting or deformation on the bolt face? Deep grooves on the bolt lugs? Hows the barrel? Even without checking head space, you can examine muzzle erosion by the "bullet test" sticking a bullet end into the muzzle of the barrel to see how far it goes in. not very scientific, but it will give you some idea of condition. If everything looks good to you including the bore, then I would restore and then sell. Most other parts are easily obtained. If you don't want to go down this route - just sell them to me.

You have a steep hill to climb if you decide to return these rifles to original condition. Yes there are lots of parts available, but you have two more problems with parts. Can you find everything you need marked SA (or other as appropriate), and are you patient enough to get all the right drawing numbers?

If you take the plunge can you afford the per-part prices? You might have to accept defeat and sell them as-is.
