1 - Just wondering if anyone has a good place to get an M1 extractor. I saw Numrich, but it is a little steep of a price for shipping. Marstar is out atm.

2 - I just got this and am wondering how i can find out which gas cylinder screw plug i have - what are the differences? (ive seen a few styles out there for using M1 ammo vs other ammo.)

Thanks.

Re: eBay

Depends on the seller wether or not they'll ship out of country, as eBay rules supposedly specify no shipping gun parts out of country of seller. Never read the rule my self but have been told that by sellers. I have a state side address if I run into that. Pm me if you find one on there and can't ship it here. If it were me I'd put out a WTB add in the ee there's lots of (rookie & veteran) garand builders on the forum someone may have a spare extractor.

If running commercial ammo it's recommended to run a shuster plug. It's a adjustable with a screw to adjust pressure working against your oprod.

I've had mixed luck with Ebay. Anything coming out of overseas usually wasn't a problem to get ahold of. Anything coming out of the states, make sure they don't ship with Global Shipping Plan. If GSP finds out it's for a gun they send it back to the seller, and refund your money on it.

Numrich is decent but yeah the price for the export fee kind of bites. I usually make up for it by waiting until I can make a purchase large enough where I save the difference and it eats up the export fee.

I found none of the US sites that have these will ship up here anymore, and i don't even know which kind i have - whether original/adjustable/ported.

Search "garand" on the MILSURP Exchange forum and you will find one member selling NOS extractors. You can try a WTB ad on the same forum for other Garand parts. If you post a pic of the front face of your gas plug we can tell you what you have. Member Pocketfisherman is making and selling adjustable gas plugs.

I looked before and didnt see it......I need to make an eye appointment anyways......

Thanks a bunch. I just pulled the bolt apart and the springs look a little funky, so i may need them too. Will get a pic of gas plug up.

Thanks again.

Why do you think you need to do something with the extractor? You having issues? As I recall, M-14/M305 extractors will work in an M1. Talk to Mystic.
You can't tell anything about a spring by just looking at it. You don't need an adjustable gas plug either.
And E-Bay finances the people who want to take your firearms away from you.

Be carefull with sunray's "expert" advice OP.
Your op rod will thank you for using an adjustable gas plug, if firing commercial factory ammo, or slower burning than 4895 fueled handloads.

Check out Northridge International's website.
I've purchased a few parts from them with no problem.
A phone call to them will get the info as to whether thay can ship any particular part to Canada

Here are the pics:

GAS SCREW: someone mentioned being able to identify it. If i got the wrong angle or u need something different, please let me know.

EJECTOR SPRING : It looks to me like it is stretched a bit. Pic isn't the greatest - i couldn't get a good angle.

That is a standard "poppet" style gas cyl screw which contained a spring loaded valve which was opened when a grenade launcher was installed on the rifle. The screws should be checked and cleaned periodically to ensure that the valve is free of crud/grease and that it will seat and fully close. To do this put a punch in a vise, place the face over the punch and press downwards to open the valve. Next, use a spray cleaner in the interior area and clean with a brush. The rear face of the valve should also be checked for cracks. A crack will open when heated and will allow gas to escape which may cause short stroking and variations in bullet placement.

Kinked or deformed springs should be replaced. Extractors can become worn or broken leading to extraction/ejection malfunctions.
