Well I spent a bunch in the woods in South Florida this spring/winter I mean lol I tried some Bob cat calling and that didn't go well and even coyote but found that the place I tried every 2nd hog hunter is calling coyotes there and maybe that why the cats didn't want to come in. I dropped the predator stuff and pulled on the turkey stuff and gave that a try. First I guided a girl/women to her first kill let alone her first Osceola.
Then a buddy and I did the most awesome hunt and one that everyone reads about - Getting into the swamp for Gobblers- As we packed up light and launched a canoe in fisheating creek and did close to 6 miles and 6 hours of paddling and pulling this boat over sand bars into "No Mans" land and camped for 3 days with the gators and snakes and on day 2nd I called in a Osceola to 25 yards and buddy took his first Osceola too. Day 3 was hot and I didn't want to see the bird spoil so I said lets get this bird out of here and we faught out way back out of the swamp to check it in.
The next day I got a chance to hunt myself and at first light a gobbler sounded off and I cut to him he answered and before long him and two hens walked in and just as I shoulder the gun a hen drops down and the gobbler climbs on ! 8 minutes that big boy carried on and I know he was on them "Blue" pills ! I could not shoot as in risk of hitting both but at 9 minutes he went to gobbler heaven with a smile on his face lol
My buddy Paul came down to visit and to hog hunt with his crossbow, so we headed back out to this place I turkey hunt and spend the night in a cabin. Just before daylight I took him into a bait to stand hunt and I headed to the blind to sit and see if I could work another bird in. Just after light I have not heard anything and I just call for about the 3rd time and I text Paul to see if he has seen anything for hogs and if he has heard any gobbling and I look to my right and there is a gobbler walking in quiet never made a peep. I slowly rise the gun shoulder it and at 40 yards the 20 gauge drops him like a rock. I take the bird back to camp and wait out Paul to text for pickup when I get a text "Hog Down' !
What a season I had with making memories for 2018
