I just ordered my 16" Stagarms AR. Now I'm looking for railed handguards. If I'm just going to be adding a tango down vertical grip, and will just be shooting at the range, will this be sufficent, or should I spring for a higher end item? Also, what is the difference between a free floating rail system and the regular rail system? I do like the look of the longer rail systems, will a 12" system fit fine on the 16" AR, or should I just get the 10" system? Sorry for the ignorance, I'm new to AR's. Your thoughts and opinions are greatly valued and appreciated!

I have a set on my AR carbine. I got them off Ebay for pretty cheap. They are fine for what I need them for. Not as pimp as some of the other rails out there, but spending $200 more on a set won't make me shoot better.

Free floating attaches to the barrel nut. I put a 12 inch Samson rail on my new Stag AR with a 16 inch barrel. It looks and works quite well. The reason for the longer rail is that it gives you more room for attachments and protects your body from hot barrel. Armseast sells and installs the Samson rails. ( plug for Walter! )
Do a google search for "recce rifle" or "recon rifle". You will find out a lot of info.
YMMV,
Hoddie.
