2 stage cg Jackson trigger questions and review

I picked up a new in the pkg model 22 tactical 2 stage trigger from a guy that had one and never finished his build. This is a 3 lever trigger as opposed to their competition 4 lever model with adjustable shoe. I've sampled a few 2 stage on xcr and ARs, but not on a bolt gun. I'm not sure what to think about it after installing and shooting it. The first stage just feels like play before the 2nd stage. The trigger was ordered at 2lbs 1st and 1lb 2nd stage. The 1st stage moves quite a bit to engage the 2nd. I have the instructions to tune up the trigger, but it seems ok. A couple things I also notice are; the safety dis-engages in 1 smooth move, but to re engage it, it moves about 2/3 of the way back, hits a "wall" then has to be pushed back another 1/3 to be sure it is really engaged; and the 1st stage seems to have a click or step half way through the first stage, I think it is just the spring, doesn't do it all the time.

I was going to try a huber, but they've had some issues with accidental discharge due to not resetting after the 1st stage is pulled and released due to shot not taken. They have undergone a redesign I understand and now cost $300+ same as a cg Jackson.

About the same time I received a Weatherby 22-250 used from the EE that I purchased for a friend that was looking for 1. It has the factory 2 stage trigger. Both the xtreme trigger and the weatherby seem nice. The xtreme breaks cleaner and is lighter.

My question is, is the first stage much like an accutrigger? Is the excess travel just to protect the light sear engagement of the lighter stage for saftety? If I preload the 1st stage at 2lbs, when I pull through the 2nd stage, am I pulling 2lbs +1lb or just the final 1lb? I thought this style of trigger would be the answer to having a trigger lighter than 2-3lbs for hunting and long range shooting, but still keep it safe. Anyone have experience with these?

If a 2 stage trigger is set up to take 2 lbs on the first stage and 1 lbs on the second stage, it is 3 lbs in total. ie you will be able to lift a 3 lbs weight before the trigger goes. The issue with your safety might be an issue with your stock, just rubbing a bit when you put the safety on.

The safety had the extra "click" out if the bag, before I put it in the action.

I talked to Tom? at Xtreme Triggers where it was purchased from. Sounds like everything is functioning normally on the trigger.

On a side note, I learned that the rifle that Remington was just awarded an $80m contract to supply as sniper rifles to the US included a CG Jackson 2 stage trigger. Looks like the tactical model is approved for the military. Remington has a habit of absorbing companies that produce items it needs (barnes, etc). Wonder if CG Jackson will come under the Rem umbrella in the future....
