20" barrel on a 300 WSM

Why is it that a .300WSM with a 20" barrel is too loud and looses too much velocity, but a .375 Ruger with a 20" barrel is ok?
People have a lot to say about the Ruger Alaskans, but usually not that the barrel is too short.

A 20" tube is the way to go for a truck gun. It won't get hung up when you are hurridly jumping out of the truck and should still be long enough to produce " magnum velocity ", insuring that the moose don't drop dead on the road, 'cause with a 300 mag they go a ways before they die. Don't forget to pick up your brass.:)

All kidding aside, I'm cuckoo for carbines so my judgement is squewed, but I say get the barrel length you want in the cartrigde you want. If you like the way a short gun handles then who cares about 2 or 300fps.

I have been trying to decide between a Ruger Compact or the Ruger Alaskan for my next gun. I think I am going to go with the Alaskan. The only problem with that rig is going to be finding brass. Any body out there have some .375 Ruger brass for sale? Not likely.:)
