20 ga Buckshot Loads

Anybody load 20ga with buckshot in #1 Buck or larger. Hunting regs require #1 Buck or larger for deer and all I can find commercially is #3 Buck. I personally don't care for Buckshot on deer, but my Dad likes it. I was looking into setting up to reload some for him, but I would like to hear some positive experiences before I try. Thanks.

It could be loaded weight for weight so you'll need to see how many #1 buckshot fits along with filler.I have Lyman data if you tell me what powder and hulls you have......................Harold

I experimented with 20ga buckshot loading and the best I could do in 2 3/4" hull was 15pc of #2 buck ( 5 rows of 3) in front of Fed F1 wad without petals and 18gr of WSF powder for 1100FPS. There is no way to fit 3 pc of #1 buck in one layer in any of the plastic hulls available. I am quite positive that can be done with the 20ga brass shell b/c it is much thinner. Any other arrangement, say 2pc of 0 buck in one layer doesn't make any sense b/c that would leave hudge air gaps in buck column and wasted space in addition of problems with target patterns i suspect. Please thread my loading as a reference only. As usualy please use caution when load developing and start with milder loads working up when safe....

I haven't any hulls or wads yet. I was hope to hear from someone on the site that says I've been doing it for years with good results before I try for myself. Maybe there isn't commercially loaded shells because three #1 buck won't fit on a layer. I think i'm going to buy the Lyman shotshell loading guide before I go any further. Thanks for the relpies.
