20 gauge coyote load

Picked up some #1 shot 3 inch 20 gauge shells wondering if anybody has tried them on coyotes and what kind of performance you were getting.
Also if you can recommend a better option in 20 gauge besides the expensive 00 buckshot I was looking at Id love to hear it.

I believe you would can also safely take a coyote with either 3 or 4 shot in a 2 3/4" shell or 3" - it probably would be cheaper than the buck shot. I carry the 3" shells when I am out bird game hunting on my bandolier but i have never taken a coyote yet with it. My buddy did kill a coyote with a 12 gauge with a 2 3/4" 4 shot so I think you shouldn't have a problem in a 20 gauge as long as you keep the distance close (<35 yards).
 
In my opinion # 1,3,or 4 shot in any length of 20 ga or even 12 ga is not adequate for coyotes.
A 3 inch 20 ga with # 2 Buck or # 3 Buck will be fine within reasonable yardage.....I would not shoot past 40 yards.
Normally # 4 Buck is the choice in 12 ga, but does not seem to be available in 20 ga for some reason.
 
I would assume by no 1 shot you picked up steel as finding it in lead isn't always easy. Personally for Coyotes I wouldn't shoot anything smaller than lead BB shot if my shots might be past 20 - 25 yards. You don't have to use non toxic on yotes and lead has far better downrange penetration. You may want to look at Federals new Coyote load as well. It's made from some kind of material thats denser and heavier than lead. Don't know if its available in 20ga or just 12ga but it sounds like a winner. It's BB as well.
 
I've killed coyotes cleanly with #4-#7.5 out to 30 yards with a 20 gauge .One on the full run with a .410 3" 7.5 at 25 yards.........never lost any.....AAA is as big as 20 buckshot gets as far as i know...Harold
 
I have a few boxes of federal premium buckshot maximum 3buck 20 pellets .so far it has worked well out to 50 yards on yotes that I have shot using a full choke .I am going to put my turkey scope on this gun and see what the best pattern I can get out of it with this buck shot .I find that to get the best out of a shot gun a scope really helps put the point of aim were the best pattern is .a lot of times your best pattern may not be were your point of aim is .we found this well setting up for turkey hunting .you can really inprove your range with a good scope .
