So I have an old h&r topper in 20gauge and I wondering how hard would it be to get a sleeve or insert for this and what kind of cash approximately I would be looking at .

How well do you want it to shoot, and how much money are you willing to spend?

ANYTHING can be done, with enough money to throw at it. OK, almost anything.

Lots of guys stubbing in barrels onto bored out remains of single shot shotgun style arms and making rifles out of them, particularly the NEF guns, essentially what you have.

That seems a better option to me than to slide an insert in. But the Crosno inserts have a pretty god rep for accuracy too, so it seems to be possible to get decent performance.

Sights? Scope mounting? More things to get done, eh?

Cheers

Lots of options. I've found a few manufacturers that make full length tubes but those run a couple hundred bucks and I think it may be possible to find a used one in that approximate price range. But still worth researching a bit more.

One thing to think about,,,, Modifications are needed to the shotgun action. The firing pin hole must be reduced in size and a smaller diameter pin made. I have one that I started last year (16 g to 303 British). I will be finishing it soon as I finally got the tooling to do the job.

if you got an insert made from a 223rem bull barrel, about 6" long, shaped like the chamber, and with an O-ring to center in the barrel, reamed to hornet, and a rod to knock out the empties....

or, an insert that sticks in the chamber, with a slot reamed out for an extractor, and use an extractor from a hornet, or perhaps a 22RF....

the break action H&R/NEFs have to be some of the simplest actions to play with
