In 12ga I just use 2 3/4 field loads with 4’s or 6’s. as long as they pattern well in your gun at a given distance shouldn’t be an issue.
You only need about 4 pellets in the head or neck that retain 4 ftlbs of energy the load I use puts more then 50% of the pattern in the head/neck at 25 yards.
I used to pound ducks and geese with blue Imperial 2 3/4" 4s and 6s easily at 40 yards. Best waterfowl ammo ever made.
They will easily kill a turkey. Expensive chokes and shells are such a waste of money unless you actually spend the money and time at the patterning board to truly learn what your gun can do.
