Here is a thinker.

I am looking at building a gamer rifle for IPSC Rifle / 3 Gun. I think with 20 inch barrel I would be able to make 320,000 PF with 150 grain projectiles.

Anyone know where I could source a lightweight contour one? I would like to try to avoid completely custom, but it might be the way I have to go. Daniel Horner and the AMU did this project already, so I am not the first person to think this way

The don't work. Gas dwell timing doesn't work. 300 BLK is meant to runs as a short barrel and pistol length gas.

Good idea tho

If that's true, you may have to go custom and drill a port for a shorter length gas system. That should allow you to somewhat gain the increased velocity of a longer barrel, but retain reliable cycling, right?

U cant increase velocity after the gas port. No more propellant gas to push, in some instances you actually lose velocity.

300 blk is design to run at a maximum 16" barrel

with that much effort and money, that wouldve gotten you a shilen super ultra match .002 moa barrel in 223

I'm running a dpms g2 recon .308 (16" barrel) with 110 vmax projectiles at 2940fps. Makes major pf.
With the adjustable gas block and lantac brake it recoils like a .223, and due to the g2 platform's dimensions, handles exactly like a .223 ar.
Even people that shoot it don't believe it's a 308, until they drop the mag to see what's inside, lol.
It's a bit like cheating running it against the other big heavy 308's eating 155 grain projectiles.

308 is different to 300blk. The power curve ( powder burn) is totally different. most 300blk uses either really fast burning powder or plain out just use pistol powder.

its an undercharge 223 pushing a 30cal projectile. it falls outta the sky past 300 yard

From what I saw with A1680 I could run a carbine length gas system. That would give me a bit more length to develop velocity. References I saw was stating said about 21 fps gain per inch of barrel past 16". I would like to avoid .308 as my 1050 is setup to make .300 blackout brass. I could switch to 7.62 x 40 Wilson. I just need trim dies for my rt-1500. Only thing is I can't find load data for 150 grain projectiles. It would make major probably no problem from an 18" barrel.
