20 MOA mount or rail?

So I’m finally planning on upgrading my rifle scope on my 6.5 creed, and I’m trying to decide which would make more sense. I’ve always run with a 20 MOA railed base in the past, but with this I’ll be using a Spuhr mount which affords many options in terms of cant. I’m going to replace the factory railed base on my 700 because I have no idea if it’s a 20 MOA or 0 MOA, and I’d rather just spend the 100.00 bucks and have something more concrete.

From the more seasoned vets, would you sooner run a 20 MOA spuhr mount on a 0 MOA rail, or vice versa and run a 0 MOA Spuhr mount and a 20 MOA base?

Currently, I’m leaning towards a 20 MOA Spuhr mount as I see no reason to ever want 0 cant, 20 MOA will always be my minimum, but should I ever want to bump it up to say 30 or 40 MOA, a 10-20 MOA railed base is far cheaper to replace then a 550.00 dollar Spuhr mount.

Any thoughts and considerations from you guys is appreciated.

20moa rails are the norm 0moa rails are rarer
If you are thinking of acquiring another rifle you would need to consider the availability of 0moa for that platform. You can find 20moa for most if not all rifle systems.

what scope are you using if you have enough elevation you could get away with a 20moa Spuhr and a 20moa rail.

As you have pointed out $550 is allot of coin for a mount that might limit your options.

I would go with 0moa

Have you considered a Talley 20 moa rail and Burris Signature Zee Rings?

Nearly 40 moa available depending on ring spacing, rings do not mark the scope or need lapping or anything else.

I have them on several rifles, target rifles included.

~ $100 for the rail and another ~$100 for the rings.

Unless you plan on swapping your optic between an AR and your bolt gun (in which case you'd need a 1.5" high mount) I'd go with a 0 MOA mount on a 20 MOA rail on the bolt gun.

It’s going on a Remington 700 action, and I’ve never had an issue sourcing either a 0 or 20 MOA rail in the past so I’m not overly concerned over being able to source either. Chances are good if I were to ever get another long rifle, the budget would have to be fairly substantial and would likely include room for its own optic so being able to swap it likely would not be an issue. I’ve long moved past the notion of owning many different rifles so the concept of swapping optics to save on cost isn’t high on my list of concerns. If I ever get to the point where the 6.5 creed isn’t allowing me to shoot the distance I want to, I’ll consider building another rifle to do so but until then, this is really going to be it for me.

Optic in question is likely going to be an ATACR in either the 5-25 or 7-35 range so more than enough elevation to support 40 MOA should I ever choose to do so.

Any chance you can elaborate on why you’d choose that combination?

I don’t have any intention of swapping this optic around on a regular basis, I doubt it’ll ever leave my 6.5 once it’s mounted.

I’m starting to think this may be a moot discussion after all. With the NF ATACR, I’ll never have a requirement to go less than 20 MOA, regardless if it sits on my 6.5 creed Remington, my stag10 or any other future build I may do, and I would suppose it really doesn’t matter where your cant comes from.
This is my reasoning for wanting the 20 moa mount, as should I find I want or need more cant it’s far cheaper for me to replace a 100-200 dollar railed base then it is a Spuhr mount.
For the record, I’m fairly dead set of the Spuhr for no better reason other than I just want it. Typical male purchase rationalizing I guess.
