OK I'm back with another question . I usually load 200 gr lswc for my 45 acp, but all I could find at the last gun show was 200gr lrn. I have win 231 and win small pistol primers. can I use the same load and oal with the LRN as I use for my LSWC?. Or does anyone have data for 200 gr LRN my lee and hodgons manuals do not list 200 gr LRN for 45acp?
thanks BobC.

no listing in the speer book either- only 230 - 5.6- but how close is the rn to your swc length wise- if it's the same , you should be able to seat to the same depth-

In the Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook 3rd Edition, with their 200gr bullet # 452460, they list the range of loads using 231 at 4.0 grs for 694 f/sec to 6.0 grs for 987 f/sec. Their OAL is 1.161", and they state the use of Federal cases. I don't know how that compares to your reloads but if nothing else this may give you a starting point. Something you mentioned that is a little curious, small pistol primers. Any .45 ACP cases I've reloaded take large pistol primers.

I switched back and forth from 200gr LSWC to 200gr LRN bullets in my .45 and I didn't have to change the load at all. I think my seating punch had to be adjusted but I kept the OAL the same and it worked fine for me.

p.s. Johnn: 'Winclean' ammo uses small pistol primers. Dammned annoying if you get some mixed in with 'regular' .45 but the load data is the same.

Hey raks, thanks for the heads up concerning the small pistol primers in 'Winclean' .45 ACP brass. Never heard of it before. Goes to show you, learn something every day. Thanks again.

oops

Sorry I meant win large pistol primers, thats why I ask you guys you dont miss anything. The 200gr LSWC are .642 long and the 200gr LRN are .630 long would this mean my OAL should be .012 shorter with the LRN?
Thanks again.

To answer your question, yes. 5.3 gr 231 is a very good load for the LSWC and I am sure would do well with your LRN bullets. Seating depth may/will change as I suspect the RN olgive is wider than your LSWC meaing the bullet may sit back in the case more than the LSWC. You can remove your barrel and seat one of your loaded rounds into the chamber. If they seat flush then you should be goood to go. Do not do this test with your gun intact.

Take Care

Bob
