I'm sure there are lots but could you guys give me a few suggestions on a very reliable shotgun.

I am very new to owning guns and I don't want to waste my money. Any advice would be appreciated.

Your doing it right buddy , don't waste money on a cheap shotgun and empty promises like I did

My buddy just got his first and i guess he just walked into cabelas and the person behind the desk convinced him into buying some $700 pump action. i am betting he will regret it.

I don't have a preference as far as semi or pump.

shooting at the range/ when out camping for now. interested in hunting a little one day.

I'll be the first guy to say it... You don't need to spend that much for what your intentions are. I spent $1000 on a Fabarm pump and guys on here asked, "why". Up to you though, you can be the rich guy at the range with the $3K shotgun shooting birdshot.

+1 too a Fabarm, I picked this sdass 20" last summer for just under $800. It's threaded for chokes and d&t for a reciever and forend rails, came with bead sights. I bought chokes and already had the red dot, it consistently hits an 8" steel gong at 80yrds with slugs. It's light and the action is smooth as silk. I love it and it didn't cost me 2-3g's

Something in the $800-1000 range will leave you money for ammo or a smaller toy like this

Buy an old 870 and modify as needed for your preferred configuration. This should get you way under budget. Add an Aimpoint Micro if you still have money burning a hole in your pocket.

To my mind, one of the virtues of the shotgun in the "black and green" world is that you can buy a good serviceable one comparatively inexpensively.
