As of this year youth hunters no longer have to wait to turn 14 to hunt big game with a firearm. The minimum has been lowered to 12 years of age. I was browsing through the online hunting regulations when i came across it. I know two little fella's that are 12 and 13 and they damn near lost their minds when i told them about it. I think i just aquired a couple new hunting partners.

We've heard of big changes to our regs here in bc that are supposed to come in this year too along those lines - 'mentor' licenses for people who want to see what it's like to hunt but haven't taken their core, and youth get their own bag limit. But the regs aren't out yet so I don't know if we're going to get 'em or not.

My daughter is right wound up too.
She's gonna be 12 in December, and already starting on her Hunter Ed. Home study course.
I see her nailing a bear next spring followed by some quality time with mom and Dad come the November following.

Holy crap my boy is going to be excited.

He just passed his PAl course.

That changes the entire perspective on hunting this fall.

I can't find it Wildcats, could you post a link please.

This is great news!!!!!!! Hannah only has nine years to go now! Everytime the subject comes up or a rifle goes out to the truck she asks Mommy if she can go hunting with Daddy. I can't wait.

Randy, you're gonna have to start booking more time off in the fall! LOL

Same here. Here is my future hunting buddy in training:

(He does not know the difference between sg and a rifle yet and Alberta Hunting Regs and Wildlife Act do not apply to his toy geese. ;) 9 years to go.

7 more years.

Seven years till my oldest can hunt. Nice to think about. Both my boys argue over 'who gets to go shooting with Daddy this time' every time I go out the door with a rifle. I love it.

Good to see changes that encourage hunting and the outdoor pursuits........
