Two BCer's, 12 guns, and a prairie funeral trip.

First off big thanks to Dennis for being an excellent host and the organizing areas for us to shoot. Your time is much appreciated and your tail gate lunches are delicious. Our memories will last a life time.

Well to the story, a buddy and I left the Lower Mainland Thursday June 11 for Alberta to meet up for a 3 day shoot. This was eagerly anticipated and was a year in waiting and planning. The drive out was long but after 14 hours of driving and after some zombie inducing like straight prairie stretches of road we reached our destination.

Friday Day 1 *WARNING GRAPHIC PICS AHEAD*:adult:

We start our morning at 9am drove to our destination and as we hit the gravel road we see the squeaks running along and across the road. Before we even entered the gate we had grins from ear to ear. Temperature was in the high twenties and maybe mid thirties.

We were shooting and clearing an entry point to the field just past the gate, the little buggers were everywhere. Like a game of Risk we slowly moved in taking a little bit of land at a time. We started off with rimfire cartridges, I was armed with a 17HMR and was able to dial into a few from a distance. Some of these suckers will just sneak up behind you.

We were finally able to establish an elevated position and had a 360 view of the squeak colony.

Matt those are awesome pics and the video is even better....As soon as I get a chance to post the pics up in photobucket and resize em for here I will post mine. It was a great weekend had by all..or so me thinks but its really nice to be able to meet members from the board in here.

For any one who is wondering...I am shooting 55 grain Hornady spsx"s at 3550 fps. They are made for the .223 round and not a 22-250. The vapour trail or smoke trail you see in the vids are the slugs actually starting to come apart and they want to vapourize....The vids were shot at 27 degree temps and any hotter the slugs wouldnt have even reached there targets...

Excellent vids. Those hot loads were wild too....like a finger of death pointing out the target! LOL

Fantastic shoot Dennis, thanks again for for a hella good weekend!!

Yeah those little projectiles produce a vapour trail that leads right to the target. It just looks like a guided missile coming from above with a small mushroom cloud of dust. :D

Great pics! Looks to me as some rather uncomfortable shooting positions though...especially if one is at it for the whole day. I use a Black and Decker Workmate...one of those collapsible work benches. Set up my tripod on the thing and a couple sandbags under the but. I sit on an old office chair. Very sturdy and makes those 200 plus shots a cinch.

By the way...I still dont have all my stuff unpacked from the weekend....life is just way to busy for me right now....but damn it was worth it and to meet Andrew,Matt and Evan and spend time with the great company that they are....priceless.

The one pic of the cowboy( with the jack rabbit) is whom we call Whiskey Pete out here. A true die hard cowboy who I invited along for our last day of shooting and he is a really good friend of mine for the last 4 months or so. If you want to see a true Alberta redneck, this is your guy....

Traveling from BC we're short on space but we had chairs and shooting the 8.5 hours I didn't even notice it. My buddy made a table but he only got to use one, to much trouble setting it up. Carrying around a heavy barrel rifle was more tiring. :D

dry as hell out there! Hopefully the rain last night will help things a bit.

Yeah, apartly before we arrived it didn't rain for close to two months. The evening when we arrived (thursday) it did however rain for a short period at night. I gues us vancouverite bring the rain with us.

Well I finally got mine dl loaded and resized stored and ready to share....so just in random order here are some of the pics I took of the weekend busting pasture poodles...:D:dancingbanana:

Thanks for the pics they look good. I'll probably be unpack by the weekend aswell. Still have a smile from ear to ear. Keep us informed on how Pete does. :)

So....how many of your friends disowned you when they found out what you were doing? Has the province told you to move out yet? LOL :)
