I was just having a look at the 2009 World Police and Fire Games website. All the shooting sports are among the few sports that are full and closed to registration.
They are expecting over 10,000 athletes from 55 countries and this is the 2nd largest sporting event in the world. The 2009 World Police and Fire Games is close to being the most successful WPFG so far.
The cycling events and slow pitch, etc, will surely have large spectator turn outs.
I hope that those of us who live in BC, particularly the lower Mainland, will make an effort to show support for the shooting events. The event schedules should be posted on the web site soon.:welcome:

two bad our moronic government rules resulted in the SWAT challenge being cancelled.

too much hand wringing over people bringing prohib toys into the country, MP5s and such. it's bad enough with the duty pistols and mag capacity.

I had the same problem when EESA hosted the Can Am Police and Fire games in 2004. When we started talking in 2002 I told them that the gun law would play havoc with the shooting events. I was told that since the laws were directed at criminals there would be no problems.
As it was we nuked the Swat event and only about 6 americans came up with firearms only two of which brought handguns and one of those was illegal!

Definitely a shame about the SWAT competition.
Over 500 shooting competitors from around the world.
Lets get out there and show our support for shooting sports.

All the shooting sports are among the few sports that are full and closed to registration.

By the way, Canadians may still be able to register for the shooting sports.

So if you're here in Canada and want to shoot you can print out and submit your registration on paper. May want to call the folks at WPFG first to confirm though.

I believe you'd be subject to a late registration charge though.

Definitely worth a call if you are interested in competing.

I'm competing in these,
Pistol-Police Action: 0800-1800 Aug 3-5 Port Coquitlam District Hunt & Fish Club
Pistol- Police Combat: 0800-1800 Aug 6-8 PCDHFC

Gonna use my Sig 226 Blackwater for the PPC and probably a Glock of some sort(19 or 34) for the Action.

The 226 is awesome, super accurate.

I was going to do the revolver classes as well, but haven't had time to get any shooting with it. Maybe this weekend.

Should be a good time!!!

I'm competing in the Police Action Pistol as well. Running a Glock 17 for the event. Should be a good go. We only have one guy on my team who's doing the Combat shoot afterward. Good times for sure.

The PSA range in North van was built in 1989 for the games, now it's closed.

That seems like a good fact to state at the games, and to post with any pictures of politicians who show up to get PR shots of "being with the troops" and "supporting law enforcement"
:nest:

Clarification

It's been pointed out to me (thanks Lawn Dart) that I may not have been clear enough in my original message.
I am hoping to get firearms enthusiasts to attend these events as specatators to show our support for shooting sports.
You have to be in Law Enforcement to compete.
Sorry if I was ambiguous.

Sorry, guys. I'm not in the loop. Why was it closed?

The land PSA used for its range was leased from the GVWD/GVRD (now "Metro Vancouver"). Metro did not extend the lease as "catering to firearms ranges is not their mandate". The PSA directorship put on a good fight for 2 years incl. media campaigns, letter campaigns (with help of CGN members as well), the NFA, etc. but all to no avail.

Now the last of the North Shore ranges has been closed.
