200g Accubonds

A fellow Gunnut has loaded up some 200g AB's for my 300 Rum for this years moose season. With the high SD and BC these bad boys should really pound. I would like to hear some field reports on how the 200's stand up and drop game, don't hold back any details.

Only second hand for what I've heard on another forum. Users of the big case 30s not happy with their performace. With a bonded core and good SD I would assume great performance. You may want to avoid big bones close up, should still be ideal for long range.
 
I have not used them myself but have seen good reports about them on a few forums.I use the 180gr tsx in my 300ultramags and accuracy and performance on game has been very good.
 
The 180gr. Accubonds performed flawlessly from my 300WM on the game I shot with them since the Accubonds come out for the 2004 season. My buddy shot his moose with his 300WM-double lung, small entrance wound, huge exit @ about 150yrds-1 shot kill in 2004 and 2005 season For myself, I shot my NT mulie- 1shot kill dropping in its tracks @ 44m- quartering away, shot behind the LF shoulder , and found the bullet in the RF shoulder hide,as it went thru the RF shoulder. THe bullet weighed 150gr (83% retained) with perfect expansion. An hour later I dropped my 8x7 WT @ 554m-1 shot kill, double lung complete pass thru. Small entrane,huge exit. To add a bit more about the Accubonds performance, my wife (then fiance) in 2004 shot her first mulie buck (155-160BC) @ 440 yrds, and her cow elk @ 200 yrds. with a Tikka T3 LS 270WSM using 140gr. Accubonds - All 1 shot kills again. To say the least, I was very proud of her! I also to my cow elk in 2005 with my 270WSM @ about 200 yrds also 1 shot.

I have just reloaded some 200gr. to try out at the range. I can tell you is that your moose this season will be on the ground with the 200gr. for sure!

@ 3200 FPS pushed by Retumbo, that long .308 cal bullet is gonna have more than enough SD and BC not to mention volocity to deliver massive close range shock and penetration but the long range capabilities are just as excellent and will carry a message with authority well out past your hunting reasonable hunting range.
 
Just what I thought Chilly(not that I doubted the man who loaded them for me). Sept 23rd will soon be here and I find myself thinking everything moose. I think I will get my call out tonight and an Old Milwaukee and practice on the back patio.

For some reason I couldn't get the 200gr ABs to shoot out of either my .300 Win Mag or .300 Weatherby Mag. The 180 gr ABs worked very well in both guns and have performed on moose and deer. Very high BCs, accurate and good killing performance, I like to say that they fly like Ballistic Tips and and pound like partitions.

This one came out of a moose from about 170 yards and retained 76% of its wieght.

ivo, you are right, they are built like ballistic tips. They really are!!!!

Nosler changed the internal structure of many BT in heavier weights as hunters wanted more weight retention and penetration ie more like the partition.

The only difference now between the AB and the BT is the core bonding. yes, some of the light BT bullets are still very thin jacketed. Also, be aware of old stock if you plan on hammering big game at elevated velocities.

I am a little leary about 3200fps and major big bones up close. I am going to play with them as a LR bullet. Way out there, their performance should be perfect.

Will see how their ballistics/accuracy compare to the 220gr MK out of my RUM way out there.

I think 2800 to 3000fps impact velocity would be where I would want to hammer game up close with this bullet. I have seen expansion results from other hunters and they seem to work wonderfully even when things slow down around 1500fps.

I have not taken game with them yet but I loaded the 200 AB in my 300 Dakota last year and they shoot very accurately. They are a very long bullet.

I thought about going with the one bullet idea as well but decided that I would shoot 180gr Swift Scirroco's @ 3380fps and 200gr A-Frames @ 3225fps in my 26" Rem BDL s/s synthetic stocked 300 RUM.

I went with 2 different bullet wieghts because I wanted the best possible long range performance that I could get as well as a hard hitting close range bullet.

The 180gr loads are sighted in 1 high and the 200gr loads are dead on @ 200 yards.
