so as hunting season fast approaches..... who's hunting with their m14 type rifle , how ya setting it up and what are ya chasing after?
and please, this thread will be super useless without pics :D
I'm supposed to be over 1000 k away hunting stone sheep, elk and moose but slicing up my trigger finger has me in physio for a bit yet.
so i'm getting ready for deer opener sept 10th out behind my place.
I'll add some pics of my rig shortly
and as the season progresses, post your "here's what I killed with my m14" pics here ;)

Im my job permit it will be dear hunting with a stock norinco m305s . Maximum shooting distance 150yard and not volt due to a mistake in french vs english.

lol

I used my M14 last year with stock iron sights. Was no problem at 35m from a tree stand, but I'd need way more trigger time on the rifle to want to shoot beyond 100m with stock irons.

I'll probably use the M14 again this year, but I should get some glass.

This will be my set 3rd year with this setup ..still no luck while using it yet .
Ultimak M8 front rail , Bushnell TRS-25 red dot . Garand rear sights , USGI fiberglass stock, Turner saddler sling, Springfield muzzle brake

Thank goodness for archery season :)

All set for moose and deer season. Headed to the range Monday to get some time in behind the Eotech.

I hunted with mine when I had one back when you could still have 20 in the magazine.

Killed a deer, one shot only needed. Handload with a Nosler Ballistic Tip.

I would like to get a Springfield Armory M1-A if I can ever afford one.

I'm not sure how hunting season is going to go this year, got a lot on my plate and not sure how much time I'm going to have. But here is what I'll be running when it feels like an M-14 day. All of my big game hunting is now split between the M-14 and M1 Garand. Just love these rifles!

Only thing I want to do to it is change the buttstock over to a Magpul PRS, hopefully the extra weight will help balance this puppy out a bit, and get a different optic on there.

Switched to a Valmet M88 .243 this year for wolfing, that's a battle rifle too I would say though, my Krieger'd M1 Garand will be out too no doubt for the long shots, as there's nothing quite like 500 yard+ "ironing". :) Switched to the Valmet as the .243 on running shots of unknown range will speed things up a bit.

I plan on doing some hunting come this fall for caribou with my ROCHELLE ... she's my Springfield M1A with a couple tweeks to her. She has never let me down. I shot two muskox this spring with her two weekends in a row. I'd like to get a big bull caribou with a huge rack so I can get a good pic with ROCHELLE on the tundra. Cheers CGNer's,

OMG!!!
308 can take down big game animals like Umingmak's???
Please don't tell Seafurry. He might have a brain fart ;)
I still love your skidoo pic posted on that other place much better :p

Not a great pic but this is my rifle. It still needs some finishing work such as a front sling swivel and a butler creek cap for the ocular lens on the Leupold. Rifle shoots like a house on fire, though. Can't wait to take her out in November!

Ok, OPs can close the thread now nobodys gonna top that :)

This thread has effectively reminded me that I need to mount scope, bed, zero, and oh yeah....get my hunting license....

I shot my 1st umingmak(muskox) a few yrs ago with the same rifle but scoped. I actually prefer the iron sites as I get up so close you don't need a scope. I'm glad you guys/gals like the pics but I'm sure there's some real good hunting ones also with your M305's, M1A's. ;)

p.s. Carbon Mechanic, there isn't anything on N.America that a 30 cal won't kill ... ;) 1 shot, 1 kill :p

Yup, echo that, the M14 is just another .308 delivery system and like all rifles, shot placement is everything. Plenty of killing power for any N. American big game. Just keep a AIA 10 rounder full of 180's in your pocket in case mr grizz comes along :D
