The SPRA held the Annual Provincial Prize Match the weekend of July 19th thru July 21st. Again, a lower than usual turn out for our provincial match. We had 4 masters and 3 Expert TR sling shooters, 7 FTR and 8 FO shooters in total. Speculation says the World’s events up and coming in Raton NM this year is the culprit since the Canada team was practicing at the APRA homestead range over the same time period.

Weather on Friday during the JRI Palma was very excellent for the first two yardages a light NE wind, but by the time we were on the 1000 yd line, the winds increased and swung to a NNW with a heavy rain. Some had barely started and some had 10 on for score when it hit the firing line. The targets were pulled down and we all retreated to the clubhouse for about an hour to dry up and have a lunch. Once the rain had lightened up, we once again headed out for a light soaking to finish the Palma and by the end of the 15 rounds, it had stopped raining and the sun came back.

Weather on Saturday, the start of the Lt Gov’s and P&E SR agg, was better, no rain. Since there was already bad weather for this shoot and more coming and due to the fact there was not enough guys from other provinces to form teams and most of the ones there really did not care if we shoot team or not, we all agreed to move the LT Gov’s 600 yd up to Saturday, leaving us only a 900 2+10 and 1000 2+15 for Sunday, if the weather was against us (and it was again Sunday with rain showers and variable winds).
