I got a new job mid June that doesn't allow me to take my time and I took 10 days vacation for a bear hunt just before my 3 month mark. I had 2 deer tags for my local shot gun area/bow area. I got out 1 Saturday early season with bow and saw nothing! Well shotgun week was early November and I kept trying to find sometime to get out work early and get out for a sit. Finally Wednesday rolled around and I decided I was talking Thursday morning off to hunt! I needed to get out. I called my girlfriends brother to see if he could take some time, and my uncle to see if he had no issues with us hunting his property that morning.
All was good, and he had been seeing tons of deer in the hay field. Well my girlfriends brother had never shot anything before as he is new to hunting so I put him in a great ground blind in the back corner of the hayfield where the deer have been concentrating. I decided to sit in my deer stand in the back of his property in my tree stand I set up. There was a lot of good sign there, and my camera has caught a little bit of action but in previous years it's an awesome location! The hayfield has more action but i had high hopes for the girlfriends brother.
Just around 45 mins into the stand I let out a few grunts and even a rattle, and about 15mins to 20 mins later I caught a glimpse of movement to my left. I take a look threw the thicket and saw antlers but it was so hard to tell if he was any good. Looked small to be honest but needed meat as I didn't expect to get back out. There was a small opening that he was headed towards and when he took a step and opened up his shoulder I touched s shot off with the 20g savage with an accutip. He ran 45 yards jumped over some tall weeds in the bush and I heard a crash. I climbed out of the stand and walked over to wear I heard the crash and sure enough there he was. Way bigger then I expected

I called the girlfriends brother and he started walking towards me. I decided to leave the bush and walk to the top of the hill where he could see me easily and then I'd take him into the bush. As I exit the bush I called my little brother to bring the truck down and as I crest the hill telling my brother the story about the buck, a second buck jumps out of his bed in another hay field and took off running at about 100 yards. I dropped the phone, pull the shotgun up, lead him and touch a shot off and drop the second buck. Pick the phone back up and my brother starts yelling what the hell happened! In excitement I yelled I got a second one. My girlfriends brother comes flying around the trail trying to figure out what happened and he saw me yelling in excitement!! 2 deer down 11 minutes apart!

My brother jumps in the truck, and comes over to my uncles, we get some pictures taken with the two bucks. What a great day to miss work! Nice pair of 8 points down. The big boy weight 319lbs to my surprise (weighed by my taxidermist), 27" neck, 23" inside spread.
