2015 Shed Thread

The three bucks that I've been feeding all winter have dropped their antlers. 6, 6, 8. All heavy, wide spans. Waiting for the snow to go.

Well I will hopefully have some time to walk around this year, I've got places for whitetail, elk and mulies so should be able to pick something up. There's one old wt buck that I got pics of last year who I'm hoping made it through yet another winter. Have one of his sheds from 2010 and a buddy has both from 2012...

hmm, any tricks to finding some? I spent plenty of time in woods yet never found any sheds, would like to finally score

Talk to locals/landowners and find out where they're seeing deer during this time of year. It may very well be some distance from where they are during hunting season. Look along fencelines, walk trails, check any known bedding areas, if there's still snow look for areas with the most tracks.
It took me a couple of years to find a fresh one. If what you're doing isn't working, try something new.

brother ran this one over with the 3 wheeler right before Christmas. I've looked for hours for the other side but no luck. Its extremely heavy so I can't see him carrying the other side very far.

I'll be taking a walk through the bush soon to see if there are any dropped sheds, last fall there was a huge buck in the area. Ive found quite a few moose antlers in my time but only a couple deer sheds.

Our bucks have all shed. I have collected several at my feeding station, and my Australian shepherd finds them like a pig after truffles. Of course she gets a treat, repeat, repeat. I also use an "antler trap".

Still to much snow in the bush here to walk about without snow shoes. I am out everyday on the Argo and the deer use many of the Argo trails but I have seen no sheds on or near them. I have cut a lot of standing dead jack pine this winter and the deer show up afterwards to eat the moss and other delicacies off the branches. Seen nothing in those areas either. There are many big bucks in the area, who are kind of like ghosts. I have to cut next years wood as soon as the snow goes down some so I will be watching for any sheds. I have 5-7 deer that I feed every night but they are all does and fawns. Haven't seen one buck all winter come to the grain piles.

Good spot to start looking (but by no means is a guarantee) is ridges that run east west into a food source. Check the southern side of the ridge.

Deerdr, had much luck with the trap?

Went for a walk this morning and found a really good area with tons of tracks, trails and fresh droppings. Not one bone. I don't think they've dropped yet. The landowner said he saw a buck a few days ago with only one antler left so it's got to be soon.

The bucks in southern Alberta still with their antlers. I usually start seeing sheds late April.
Not much snow these year, so foraging was a little easier. Shed could be allover the place this year.
