All of the major knife makers had large booths set up at SHOT so I figured I would do one knife review. There were lots of great knives out there to look at but I didn't spend much time at them as I was focusing on firearms and hunting related products. I am not a huge benchmade guy but this knife got my interest with the unique locking mechanism which is ambidextrous.

The Benchmade 665 Ambidextrous Assisted Opening Knife

Features:

  • Assisted Opening
  • 154CM Steel
  • 3.6" Blade Length
  • .124" Thick Blade
  • OAL: Open-8.41" Closed-4.81"
  • Weight: 5.46 oz
  • Handle thickness: .59"
  • Safety Switch on Spine (keeps the knife locked in closed position when activated)
  • Dual Side Ambidextrous Lock - Close the blade by pushing down the button on either side or both
  • Drop Point Blade (available in plain edge or partially serrated)
  • Stonewash or Black finish Blade (Black was not on display)
  • Reversable (right or left side) Low Profile Pocket Clip - Tip Up Carry
  • Blue and Black Textured G10 Handle with Steel Liners (They didn't have the black model to display, not sure if the handle will be all black, or the same blue and black)

MSRP:
Blue - Plain edge or Combo: $210
Black - Plain or Combo: $225

The lock is simple, push one or both of the buttons down and close the blade. You an see the safety switch just aft of the buttons on the spine. It is nicely jimped with good texture. Slide it forward or back to engage or disengage the safety. With the safety engaged, the knife cannot be opened.

The pocket clip is a pretty deep carry, not completely in the pocket but pretty unobtrusive

If that makes it up this way, it might be my next EDC. I've been carrying an Ambush for years, all while searching for the perfect replacement with no luck.

and yet they won't release a Presidio (best knife ever) with an assist. lame.
