After the colossal cluster flower that 2015 was with respect to matches held at Borden, I'm interested to know what, if anything, is being planned by the ORA for 2016. Will there be alternate range options explored so that a match may be held in 2016? Will annual dues increase so that the club has the option to use other venues to hold a match, if Border is still waiting for grass to grow in 2016? Is there any talk among the membership and exec to address the issues which were present in 2015 (ie no plan b range option), or is it assumed that this year was an unforecastable anomaly and shall never repeat?

Tough questions, yes, but there are folks out there who after this year are left wondering if it's time for a different hobby.

All I am going to say is as of this time I will not be paying for a 2016 membership until we hear a firm response from the BOD if we are getting range access or a heavily discounted membership fees.

I can see a poor shooting season again next year as well.

The loss of Borden was bad BUT there are a few alternatives. Kingston (out to 600) is very nice. The groups there are small so you get a LOT of trigger time. Also several of those that attend were knowledgeable and eager to help out. (Can't say enough nice things about Kingston.) Also Connaught (Ottawa) is enormous. Sure the drive to either may put you off, depending on your location but as I said, there are some alternatives and nice ones at that.

There is also Meaford.

FYI: It's availability was touted at many meetings last year. But this year, when there was no access to Borden ranges and gaining access to Meaford ranges was requested, NOTHING was done to try and gain access.

Members who only shoot Precision got absolutely nothing for their money this year. Dues should be refunded, or at the very least discounted for 2016.

First off there is no BOD for the ORA. There is however a council and an executive. As the ORA relies on DND we do not have control of these ranges or the dates allotted. All points should be brought to the attention of the ORA council and Executive as soon as possible by your respective chairperson, that should be attending the upcoming meetings in Oct.

There is also Meaford.

FYI: It's availability was touted at many meetings last year. But this year, when there was no access to Borden ranges and gaining access to Meaford ranges was requested, NOTHING was done to try and gain access.

I have seen all of Meafords ranges and there is good shooting. There were also many weekends this year that they looked unoccupied.

There's really no way of knowing what was tried. Communication was very poor.

You need to ask the PR Chairman if he tried or asked for bookings Connaught. If the communication was very poor, was it between the PR Chair and the shooters? The PR Chair and the ORA Exec?

Hi Guys
As both an organizer and a shooter in NB I can feel your pain
Good range access is difficult and we are lucky to have affiliated clubs
With privately developed ranges cohost shoots with us.
Communication issues always seem to crop up when plans get
changed. Most organizers are volunteers and only have limited ability to
respond to changes, the solution here is more people volunteering time
to help. I know that membership fees in the RNBRA are almost revenue neutral
so I believe withholding membership only weakens the ORA and further handicaps
it. The only way we will continue to enjoy this sport is to adapt and overcome as our forfathers
did when they settled this Country.

I think that reducing and/or refunding a bad year does not promote the successive year. That said, there should also be expectations and commitments for the successive year. What changes are sought by the membership? I would like to see a plan b range become a reality- even if it is a drive to get there.

There is a Program Meeting coming up on Oct 22. I would hope that all program chairs will be in attendance to give their reports and to have input on next years program plan. Between now and then, people need to contact their discipline chairperson to let them know about your concerns.

Burwash, Meaford and Kingston only have 600 yard/metre ranges. Can the PR program be modified to only 600? How many are willing to drive to Petawawa or Connaught to shoot 4-5 matches? Should these matches be changed to 2 day matches because of the drive. Are shooters, other than your program chair willing to run a match or two?

The ORA Annual matches were moved to Connaught. 7+ hour drive each way for me. Shot the ORA, came home and back to work for a few days, then back to Ottawa for the DCRA matches.
