People are finding all kinds of way to shred time in competition. Cobalt Kinetics come up with a system that basically ejects the magazine when the last round is loaded to the chamber. When a fresh mag is inserted, the bolt is released automatically.

The system is only guaranteed to work with Cobalt Kinetics upper due to tolerance requirement. Putting a regular upper on the Cobalt Kinetics lower may not work reliably.

Here is a 43 second explanation.

How the magic happens:

From the competition side of things at first I thought oh that's cool, but then I thought, when was the last time I ran a mag emty into bho in a match....

Cool concept, no doubt. I don't see it gaining much momentum though. I imagine price point will be high as well, due to limited production.

I love seeing stuff like this though. Even if it doesn't catch on, it could inspire further innovation.

love the idea but they need to work out the traditional mag release....
also, i would want this to accept current AR uppers

The first interesting "new" thing I have seen for an AR in quite some time.

I sure hope they put in for a patent.

Neat stuff.

My thoughts exactly. Sometimes I think that we have refined the AR platform to the point where any further improvements are trivial...but there are constant developments such as this that prove me wrong. Sure, it seems gimmicky now, but integrated uppers and piston-driven gas systems all started on a cocktail napkin somewhere.

I applaud the genuine innovation and curiosity it takes to ask "what if?" and come up with something better!
