As I am sitting here piecing together this mornings lengthy walk, thinking about tracks I’ve seen, game trails, known general movement of the Elk herd, I’m thinking there must be someone else on CGN that has been out in the woods this season looking for some wild meat for the freezer.
Anyone have stories and/or pictures to share about their hunts for elk, moose, deer, sheep, goat etc?
This morning my father in law and got out to a good spot to park the vehicle and start walking and lo and behold, someone beat us to the general spot. Great. We decided to take a different trail, and an hour into our treck we hear a bugle close by. Hmmm, surely sounded like a ‘plastic bugle’. Few minutes passed and the sound of crunching footsteps in the snow and frozen mud came closer. There was the ‘elk’. Met up with a very friendly hunter and what looked like to be his daughter. We chatted a bit, they were on their way out and doubted they’d get much more time in the woods so he gave us a few pointers as to where he seen the elusive elk herd, wished us the best of luck and we parted ways. FIL and I continued to walk, through the snow, mud and bent down willows covered in snow and made a great big loop through an area where in years past have seen quite a bit of sign. Found a lot of early morning tracks but nothing to fill them. After an approx 8km hike we were back at the car. Gleaning the tip from the other hunters and the tracks we seen and e-scouting on satellite maps I’m hopeful we can make things happen this season. We will certainly be out there Monday morning.
That’s my story for today, what’s your season been like?
