I forgot to move my ear defenders on for a shot the other day and my ears are still ringing (a day later), likely due to the muzzle break and rain hoody combination.

Can anyone recommend inexpensive earbud sound protection that permits low-level sound to pass through, but protects from higher level sound?

In this day and age, I would think such a thing would be available at a reasonable price (e.g. around $100). They are available for around $30 for concert goers, but those are high fidelity noise reduction earbuds and are likely unsuitable for percussion sound protection.

$400 seems a tad expensive... so I am wondering if anyone knows of a better solution.

Price is right, but would acoustic filters be suitable for percussion sound protection?

This seemed like the cheapest option (half the price of the Walkers Silencer Hearing Protection), but I don't like the wire and need to recharge before use (unless you use them every 100 hours).

I wear the Surefire Sonic Defenders under a pair of Peltor electronic hearing protection since I find one set of hearing protection is not enough for longer range visits. Both sets by themselves allow me to hear people talk yet protect me from louder noises. Both sets combined allow me to hear people talking without any issues. The Surefires are pretty inexpensive and I also wear them hunting (or at least have them accessible by clipping the string to my hunting jacket.

I've added a link to a site sponsor:

I'll second the Sonic defenders, mine were about $20 and work well. They have a little plug that you can open, supposedly to help conversation level sound in but I never used them like that. They are sized(s,m,l), so you might need to do a little research to see what works for you. They also stood up to daily wear, so they are a good investment at the price.
