BC gov't directs cancellation of all events with more than 250 people
Large events banned in B.C.
The B.C. government has directed the cancellation all events with more than 250 people, in an effort to slow down the spread of the COVID-19 virus in the province.
Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry made the announcement Thursday afternoon, shortly after Alberta made a similar announcement earlier in the day.
Dr. Henry also announced that anyone travelling outside of Canada will be required to stay away from work and school for two weeks following their return to B.C. The province is "strongly advising against" all non-essential trips outside of the country.
The province now has 53 cases of the COVID-19 virus, after seven new cases have been discovered in the past 24 hours.
Dr. Henry said the “most concerning” new development is the second outbreak of the virus at a long-term seniors care home, at West Vancouver's Hollyburn House. She said two healthcare workers who worked at both the Hollyburn House and the Lynn Valley Care Centre have been diagnosed with COVID-19, and they're currently recovering at home.
The Interior Health region still has just one case of confirmed COVID-19 virus.
