2022 Alberta Fullbore Rifle Association Tentative Match Schedule

AFRA Members and Most Welcomed Guests:

Dates are firm. Course of fire subject to change.

Given the changing Covid situations we faced in Alberta in 2021, we cannot predict what we will meet next spring. We are trying to put a schedule together with what we know now. At this point, we are welcoming guests. The AFRA will always abide by the Provincial and Federal Covid restrictions the week of the match.

All matches will be by pre-registration only. We cannot accept walk ins. Bring a minimum of 69 rounds per day as we are fluid on what we can accommodate based upon Covid restrictions in place and the number of competitors.

The attached is the match schedule we are planning to offer. We cannot finalize the match format at this time, but this is our current plan.

Please use this schedule when planning your vacation days. Round count and distances subject to change based on the number of shooters.

It is because of loyal members and welcomed regular guests that we had a great 2021! Thank you to all of you for helping grow the club.

2022 Membership renewals/applications will be available by end of this week. Current members will automatically get the email renewal package. New members can ask for the package from the email address below.

Costs for guests is shown on page 1 of the schedule.

Please forward this link to like minded competitors as we are encouraging participation by all shooters. We will host as many shooters as we can based upon the Covid rules in place the week of the matches. AFRA will accept members first if we have capacity limits, so we encourage all of you to join as a member.

For each match, the details will be posted on this thread 2 weeks before the match to allow guests to register. Our new normal is to close registration at 8:00 pm the Tuesday before a match weekend, we will confirm acceptance on the Wednesday, and squadding and course of fire out by Thursday evening with a go/no on weather so competitors travelling have time to either travel or cancel.

For all questions and/or requests for membership applications please contact afratargetshooters@gmail.com

We invite all of you to come help us convert cash into noise and have fun doing it!

Best regards,
AFRA Match Committee

Introduction to TR and F-Class Long Range Shooting Competition

To all AFRA Members and Most Welcomed Guests
The AFRA has already received numerous requests for this year’s event. For that reason, we will open up pre-registration now instead of our normal 12-day window. IF we hit maximum capacity, we will close registration early and adjust the CGN posting.

Please forward this to anyone you know who is interested in trying this out. On most years, members often bring friends and let them use their equipment to try this out.

Introduction to TR and F-Class Long Range Competition Alberta Fullbore Rifle Association, June 11th 2022

Pre-Registration is mandatory by 2000 hr., Tuesday June 07, 202 via email to afratargetshooters@gmail.com.
Confirmation with details will be sent out Thursday June 9th.

This training class is open to non-members who have not attended this course before or members who have recently joined the club but have not shot a competition.
AFRA may have to limit the number of students so please apply early to the email address above.

This opportunity is to introduce people to the registration, scoring, rules, and range etiquette for TR and F-Class. The intention is to give shooters a chance to try out F Class Competition in a non-match situation with experienced competitors present to assist, coach, and advise while maintaining the match procedures for a true learning experience.

Introduction Day:
Registration opens at 8:00 am ends at 8:30 am. Anyone trying to check in after this time will not be allowed.
Directions to the range can be found at www.albertarifle.com/direcitons .
There are 4 ranges as part of the Alberta Provincial Rifle Association. This will be held at the AFRA “Fullbore 900-meter range”. A sign just through the main gate shows each of the ranges.

If you have not been out there prior, allow a minimum of 30 minutes from the Petro-Canada at Highway #1 and #22.

Equipment:
This is an introduction day to TR and F-Class Competition. The following equipment is acceptable:
• Note: This is not a sight in day for hunting rifles. No hunting rifles unless they are custom rifles built specifically for extreme long-range hunting.
* Any heavy barreled factory or custom rifle. No muzzle brakes.
* Target scopes with target turrets both vertical and horizontal with 24 to 30 minutes of elevation after 300 meters depending upon cartridge. All shooting is done by scope adjustments, not hold over.
* Bipod or front rest for F-Class.
* Rear bag is optional but recommended.
* Smart phone, smart pad, or lap top computer for electronic target scoring.
* Shooting mat or ground cover.
* 338 Lapua maximum cartridge allowed.
* For score keeping you will need a pen or pencil.
* Hearing protection mandatory.
* Eye protection highly recommended.

Course of Fire
2 sighters and 10 rounds for score at 400 meters – electronic targets.
2 sighters and 10 rounds for score at 800 meters - electronic targets.
Bring extra ammo in case we must work with you to get your rifles onto target.

Pre-registration.
Please follow this link to register for Introduction To F Class Shooting:

https://form.jotform.com/221398048743058

All shooters wishing to attend MUST pre-register .
The is no fee as AFRA will cover event insurance costs.

With the unpredictable weather in South Eastern Slopes of the Rocky Mountains, weather can be unacceptable. The Executive of the AFRA will decide on the Thursday night prior AND IF cancelled due to weather, an email will be sent to the pre-registered shooters. If no email, all is a go for a great day of learning. The AFRA will make every effort to update on CGN forum in the Long-Range Competition section.

People interested in the introduction day but who do not have the required equipment are more than welcome to come and observe.

AFRA Executive

Above is the link to register for the next match on July 23-24

AFRA had intended to run this match as some combination of 300, 400, 500, and 600 metres both days but due to the unprecedented level of applications, we have had to modify format based upon the number of shooters registering.

Final course of fire to be confirmed once registration is closed and we have a head count of how many shooters.

BRING A MINIMUM OF 70 ROUNDS PER DAY YOU ARE GOING TO COMPETE.

Registration closes Tuesday July 19 at 8:00 pm.

Confirmation of acceptance sent to applications Wednesday July 20 by 8:00 pm.

Squadding and GO / NO GO based on weather sent out Thursday July 21 by 8:00 pm.

Please only register once. You will receive an email from Jotform confirming you have applied. Retain that email. You can reopen your application and make any changes such as changing class, days, camping, etc up until close of registration. IF you accidentally register more than once, AFRA will go into the data and manually attempt to remove all the duplicates except your last one.

Any questions, please contact us at afratargetshooters@gmail.com.

"FULLBORE MATCH 20-21 AUG 22" at: https://form.jotform.com/221406769161254

The intention is to shoot some combination of 700, 800, and 900 Metres each day. 4 times 2+15. 70 rounds per day minimum.

Course of fire subject to change based upon number of competitors and weather. All combinations will be made up of 700, 800, and 900m only.

Registration closes 8:00 pm Tuesday August 16. Confirmation will be sent out by 8:00 pm on Wednesday August 17. Squadding and final GO / NO GO with weather will come out no later than 8:00 pm Thursday August 18.

Please be reminded that we now offer 6 spots for dry camping. That option is available on registration link.

Also, this year Kananaskis has implemented a pass system that if you are observed stopped anywhere in K Country EXCEPT OUR RANGE, you are subject to a hefty fine. The AFRA lease eliminates the need for the pass when you are parked or camping at the Homestead Range.

The Provincial Championships are scheduled for early September. Early registration for that event will be coming out shortly. Pre-registration is mandatory for all matches. This is a great opportunity for shooters considering coming to the provincials, to come out and get some practice at the range this month to prepare for the provincials.

All questions to afratargetshooters@gmail.com.

AFRA 2022 Provincial Championships September 9/10/11, 2022.

AFRA Members and Welcomed Guests:

We are now live to register for the September Alberta Provincial Championships hosted by the Alberta Fullbore Rifle Association.

Please read all the information before registering on the link below:

"FULLBORE PROVINCIAL MATCH 9-11 SEP 22" at: https://form.jotform.com/221407277678262

MATCH: This match is split into 3 days.

Friday is the Lt. Gov. award and is separate from the weekend.

Saturday and Sunday are the stand-alone Provincials.

At the conclusion we will present 3-day aggregate.

REGISTRATION: Since this once-a-year event is not run by usual AFRA Club protocol, we will be taking priority and squadding based upon the order of submissions received.

Priority will be given to anyone PRE-REGISTERING FOR ALL 3 DAYS. Registering for 2 days will get next limited spots. IF there are any spaces left, we will accept one day only shooters.

AFRA will time stamp all applicants and be put in that priority. All shooters will have a number attached based on this.

SQUADDING: Friday will have a separate squadding. Saturday will receive squadding for that day. On Saturday evening, the AFRA will rank scores and then re-squad for Sunday.

Course of fire subject to be adjusted based upon number of competitors and weather.

Friday will be 2+15 each at 300, 600, and 900m. Bring 55 rounds minimum for Friday.

Saturday is intended to be 2+15 twice at 400m, then once at 500, and once at 800. Round count is 70 rounds minimum for Saturday.

Sunday is intended to be 2+15 twice each at 800 and 900m. 70 rounds minimum for Sunday.

There will be live scoring at the end of each day for awards. The next day squadding adjusted.

FO and FTR/TR will be split on squadding as possible. Day by day performance will dictate.

All electronic targets. Tablet or device required by each shooter.

Registration closes 8:00 pm Monday September 5. Confirmation will be sent out by 8:00 pm on Tuesday September 6. Squadding will come out no later than 8:00 pm Wednesday September 7.

Because this match is the Alberta Provincial Championships, it will not get cancelled. AFRA will have volunteers there to run the match regardless of weather.

Please be reminded that we now offer 6 spots for dry camping. That option is available on the registration link.

Also, this year Kananaskis has implemented a pass system that if you are observed stopped anywhere in K Country EXCEPT OUR RANGE, you are subject to a hefty fine. The AFRA lease eliminates the need for the pass when you are parked or camping at the Homestead Range.
