MDT is really leaning forward into new technologies and options beyond just innovative chassis systems.

The first is really cool. They are working on an electronic trigger for precision rifles where one can use software to adjust the trigger pull. The trigger does not move, you simply squeeze to the set pull weight and the bolt is released. Such a cool idea. I'm not going to weigh into where this would land in terms of legality here tho. Given that it is for a bolt action rifle perhaps it would work.

Here is a run down from one of the reps:

The next is a shot timer that has some really great features. It is a typical shot timer however can be linked to your phone and phone's camera so it will give you data overlay onto your video showing shot times etc. So cool for training performance review, etc. The pocket clipped base is magnetically attached to the timer so it can be quickly pulled off the belt or mounted to a magnetic surface.

Next is the electronic level for placing on your precision rifle. Mountable on your rail, it can be placed right, left, or vertical and it will self adjust. Really interesting.

Always nice to see Canadian firms doing well at SHOT.

Does the electronic trigger replace the firing pin and fp spring with a solenoid plunger? Or does it just replace the sear and keep the original firing pin and spring?

Pretty sure it is the latter.

MDT just rebranded under their name some other company's shot timer which existed for couple years...

Also, there are several other Bluetooth-enabled timers on the market (some of them available since 2018) that can do the same phone camera linking. There is even an app that works with multiple timers without vendor lock.

How long does the battery last on that trigger? What would the shelf life be on the battery, say you didn't use that rifle for 1 year. How well dose it work in the cold say all day shooting in -10 to -20.
I have so many questions

They are still working out the final plans for the battery. He said intent is to get north of 800rnds per charge. Hard to say about environment impacts, etc. Definitely a design with pros and cons. I'm just happy to see some creative thinking.

With a bigger battery you could drive a wee reusable spark plug in the back of each round and the primer shortage would go away and not be your problem anymore.

The electric trigger reminds me of the electric triggers in the old Spyder Paintball markers. There is something about the tactile "break" of a trigger that I just think can't be replicated with an electronic trigger system. Pretty cool stuff though.
