AFRA Introduction to TR and F-Class Long Range Shooting Competition
Saturday June 8, 2024

Please feel free to forward this email to any interested shooters or if you are seeing this on CGN, please forward this link. We encourage members to bring guests who are thinking about joining the sport.

To all AFRA Members and Most Welcomed Guests

The AFRA has already received numerous requests for this year’s event. For that reason, we will open pre-registration now instead of our normal 12-day window. If we reach maximum capacity, we will close registration early and adjust the CGN posting.

Please forward this to anyone you know who is interested in trying this out. On most years, members often bring friends and let them use their equipment to try this out.

Introduction to TR and F-Class Long Range Competition Alberta Fullbore Rifle Association, June 8th, 2024

Pre-Registration is mandatory by 8 pm, Saturday June 1, 2024, using Jotform. Confirmation with details will be sent out Thursday June 6th. All questions to afratargetshooters@gmail.com

This training class is open to non-members who have not attended this course before or members who have recently joined the club but have not shot a competition. If you are a new member for 2024, we highly recommend taking the course.

AFRA may have to limit the number of students so please apply early.

This class is to introduce people to the registration, scoring, rules, and range etiquette for TR and F-Class. The intention is to give shooters a chance to try out F Class Competition in a non-match situation with experienced competitors present to assist, coach, and advise while maintaining the match procedures for a true learning experience.

Introduction Day:
Registration opens at 8:00 am ends at 8:30 am. Anyone trying to check in after this time will not be allowed.
Directions to the range can be found at www.albertarifle.com/directions .
There are 4 ranges as part of the Alberta Provincial Rifle Association. This will be held at the AFRA “Fullbore 900-meter range”. A sign just through the main gate shows each of the ranges.

If you have not been out there prior, allow a minimum of 30 minutes from the Petro-Canada at Highway #1 and #22.

Equipment:
This is an introduction day to TR and F-Class Competition. The following equipment is acceptable:
• Note: This is not a sight in day for hunting rifles. No hunting rifles unless they are custom rifles built specifically for extreme long-range hunting.
AFRA will ask for details of your equipment to ensure it is appropriate.
* Any heavy barreled factory or custom rifle. No muzzle brakes.
* Target scopes with target turrets both vertical and horizontal with 24 to 30 minutes of elevation after 300 meters depending upon cartridge. All shooting is done by scope adjustments, not hold over.
* Bipod or front rest for F-Class.
* Rear bag is optional but recommended.
* Smart phone, smart pad, or lap top computer for electronic target scoring.
* Shooting mat or ground cover.
* 338 Lapua maximum cartridge allowed.
* For score keeping you will need a pen or pencil.

Please follow this link to register for Introduction To F Class Shooting:

https://form.jotform.com/240754193741155

All shooters wishing to attend MUST pre-register.
The is no fee as AFRA will cover event insurance costs.

Documents will be sent to all registered attendees and these documents must be read before arriving. No copies will be given out the day of the event.

With the unpredictable weather in South Eastern Slopes of the Rocky Mountains, weather can be unacceptable. The Executive of the AFRA will decide on the Thursday night prior AND IF cancelled due to weather, an email will be sent to the pre-registered shooters. If no email, all is a go for a great day of learning. The AFRA will make every effort to update on CGN forum in the Long-Range Competition section.

People interested in the introduction day but who do not have the required equipment are more than welcome to come and observe.

Due to the overwhelming response, we have adjusted the format, course of fire, and registration options to accommodate this.

AFRA has gone to EMT pre-payment only. Payments are to be sent to AFRA.Memberships@gmail.com. Your registration is not guaranteed until payment is received. AFRA recognizes that unforeseen events can occur between now and then. For registered shooters who contact the AFRA by August 15, 2024, advising they cannot attend, AFRA will refund the fees by EMT. After August 16, no refunds will be issued.

For 2024, the options have been limited to signing up for all 3 days. Any days missed will receive a ZERO for that day. We understand there are some shooters who cannot get out of school or work for Friday. Please note that in the Comment/Special Request line on your Jotform application.

Friday will be squadded based upon order of registration. Saturday will be re-squadded based on Friday results. Sunday will be re-squadded based on the previous 2-day aggregate. If travelling with others, please take this into account that you might not be shooting together.

AFRA Members and Welcomed Guests

The next match is scheduled for July 20/21 at the AFRA Homestead Range.

Registration is now open but closes Tuesday July 16th at 8:00 pm. Pre-registration is mandatory. Late entrants not accepted.

For 2024, many members communicated that with work/family commitments that often they can only shoot 1 day per weekend. The request was to offer alternate matches where Saturday was the LONG DAY and Sunday was the SHORT DAY. It would give those members an option rather than getting either a LONG or SHORT day on their 1 available day allowed. AFRA will monitor the acceptance/approval of this change.

Saturday is a Long Day. It will be a combination of 700, 800, and 900m.

Sunday is a Short Day. It will be some combination of 300,400, 500, and 600m.

Final course of fire will be determined on Tuesday after closing. It depends upon the number of entrants and which berms fit.

Please enter on Jotform:
