CDTSA will be holding 3 3-Gun matches this year! Mark your calendars for:

June 9RegistrationRound CountScores
July 28RegistrationRound CountScores
September 8RegistrationRound CountScores

As always, we will be setting up the day before and permitting camping. Camping will start on the Friday night before matches, for anyone who wants to make a weekend out of it. Setup will start around 10AM the Saturday before all matches.

It is very important that we get a good turnout to help set up the match the day before, as well as help from all the participants to put stuff away when we're done. These are fun matches, but they can only happen if everyone chips in to help.

Here are some answers to questions that I'm sure a lot of you have. If you want some clarification on any of my answers, let me know. If this information brings up more questions, let me know.

Directions to the range: Please pay very close attention to the requirement to come down Range Road 223 and backtrack along Township Road 184. This keeps your dust out of our closest neighbours on Range Road 224, plus it's a safer road (less hills). Google Maps

Registration - We use Practiscore for registration and scoring. Details will be available later, but as in the past, people should start showing up at or before 9:00AM to check in, fill out guest passes, pay, etc. Registration will be followed by a safety briefing. We will begin the safety briefing at 9:30 AM sharp. Attendance at the safety briefing is mandatory. If you arrive after the safety briefing, you will be turned away.

Black Badge and other Certifications - We do not require holster courses. There may be parts of the courses of fire that are different if you do not have a holster course. Basically, if you don't have a holster course, you won't be allowed to start a stage with a round in the chamber of your pistol. We do, however, frequently require you to start with an empty pistol regardless of training or certification as part of the CoF for a stage. Our matches are set up to appeal to both 3-Gun aficionados as well as first-timers.

Round Count - Typically, we keep the match round count in the neighbourhood of 150, total. That is any combination of pistol, rifle, shot shells, and slugs. Prior to the match, we will announce an overall breakdown. For example "Match X on day Y will require 50 pistol, 75 rifle, 18 shot shells, and 6 slugs." I will stress that you should always bring extra ammo. The round counts are for a 'perfect' score, and we don't see many perfect scores. Additionally, if there is a failure of range equipment (timer, prop failure, etc), you may be required to reshoot a stage. I'm typically showing up to a match with probably 4x as much ammo as I need, but I like to make people feel good by missing a lot.

Amenities - We're far enough from the nearest town that you cannot run off to get lunch, water, sunscreen, etc during the match. We're an outdoor range. Sometimes it's hot, sometimes it's cold, sometimes it's windy, sometimes it's muddy. I would recommend bringing an entire change of clothes, just in case. If you have a cart for carrying all your stuff, bring it. Our range is built on a 1/4 section, so there's some walking involved when going from stage to stage. Plan to move your stuff around by carrying it or using a cart. Bring lunch, water, sunscreen, bug spray, a hat, sunglasses, etc. See the rule book for information on carts.

Rules - Our official rule book is here

Ammunition - See the rule book for information on permissible ammunition. The Coles Notes version is that we do not allow any ammunition with steel penetrator cores. If your bullets stick to a magnet, they will not be allowed. NOTE: The bullet cannot stick. Steel-cased ammo with lead-core bullets is 100% fine.

Hey all,

Here's a quick update for match 1, which is coming up this weekend.

First of all, for those of you that were thinking about registering, we've got a few spots available.

Second, in an effort to step up our safety game, we now have safe tables in the match area (bays 11-15). These tables are the new location for casing and uncasing your firearms. Please do NOT (un)case your firearms at your vehicle anymore. Furthermore, no ammunition, snap caps, dummy rounds, etc may be handled while at the tables. There are several in the bay 11-15 area. They are bright red. You can't miss them. I know this is a major departure from the way CDTSA has operated in the past, please let me know if you have any questions.

Next up - payments. Please remember that we have transitioned to 100% cash-free payments. We will accept debit, credit, and CDTSA club shoot cards only. Fees for members are $10, guests are $20.

Lastly, we have ticks. After several years without seeing any, they're back. Please come prepared with bug spray that is effective against ticks. Our mosquitos have also pulled through the winter bigger, hungrier, and nastier than ever. Bring spray. Bring lots of spray.

I'll have the round count available for you really soon.

Hey All,

Here's the round count for Match 1:

Pistol: 34
Rifle: 44
Shotgun: 21
Slug: 9

My usual warning still applies - these numbers represent a perfect score. You will not shoot perfectly, so bring more ammo. Always bring enough extra to be prepared for a re-shoot in the event of timer or prop failure.

We also have one stage that allows the use of a support, if you so choose. Feel free to bring a shooting bag or bipod if you'd like one.

I'll repeat the warning about ticks and mosquitos - bring spray, lots of spray.

3-Gun is sweet. That was a great match (my first one!) and I quite enjoyed it. I do believe I'm coming to the next one! Thanks again!

Hey All,

Here's the round count for match 2:

Pistol: 40
Rifle: 43
Shotgun: 39
Slug: 13

As always, this round count represents the perfect case. Expect to shoot much, much, more.

See you on Sunday!

Hey Everyone,

The finishing touches are being put on the stages right now. I'm hoping to get you a round count tomorrow evening.

What I can tell you is that we will be having 5 stages. One of them will be a shotgun mega stage. For those of you that are unfamiliar with these stages, they're entirely shotgun. In this case, the perfect round count for the one stage will be 30 rounds. Expect to shoot more. You must carry all your shotgun ammo on your person for this stage. Caddies, chest rigs, dump pouches, your pants pockets, etc are all legal ammo carrying devices. Plan accordingly.

Next, and probably most important, the weather. The forecast for the Milo area is HOT this weekend. Like 32-33 degrees kind of hot, low wind, and basically zero chance of any kind of rain. Bring water, lots of it. Bring sun screen. It's going to be a very full day out in the sun so please be prepared. Heat stroke is not a good time, especially with an hour plus drive back home at the end of the day.

If you haven't registered, we still have a few spots open. Sign up here: https://practiscore.com/cdtsa-3-gun-september-8th-2024/register

See you on Sunday!

Hey Everyone,

Here's the round count you've all been waiting for:

Pistol: 41
Rifle: 44
Shotgun: 67
Slug: 12

Remember, this round count is a perfect score. You are guaranteed to shoot more. Bring extra in case you need to do a reshoot.

This will be a 5-stage match. One of the stages will be a shotgun mega stage, so be prepared for a stage that requires you to carry a minimum of 30 shotgun rounds. Those rounds may be carried in caddies, chest rigs, pockets, dump pouches, or anything else you can think of.

The forecast is still on the warm side of sweltering, so make sure you have water, sunscreen, etc.

We have a few spots left. Register here: https://practiscore.com/cdtsa-3-gun-september-8th-2024/register

See you on Sunday!
