Gearing up to load for .204 Ruger.Purchased Redding dies, have Varget,Benchmark,H-4895, for powders.Any suggestions as to the best brass? Is Hornady brass superior to Winchester? Thanks in advance for any info.C1A1

Hornady is great brass and as far as powders, I use BL-C2. You will find that a ball powder is WAY easier to get in that tiny case mouth, and BL-C2 gives the best velocity and accuracy.

FWIW, I grabbed a couple of those disposable otoscope speculae (The ear-looker-inner thingies that lookike a mini funnel) from the medical clinic and they make excellent funnels for the 204 cases.

i think the hornady brass is good stuff. Im not sure there is much difference betwee the win and hornady. I use both and have had no issues with either. Also i like the ball powders in my 204 too. Easier to load and they burn nice also. Im using the Win 748 and my 204 loves that stuff. Now my new one that i just got i have no clue yet but ill find out soon.

I have had good luck with Hornady brass.

Apparantly there were a few problems with tight primer pockets in Hornady brass in 204 cal but I believe that was just in a few of the earlier batches.

If you want you can give the Norma brass a try but you will end up paying the same as a loaded round of other types. However if you want to get the best brass possible for competition it is probably worth the extra money.

For just regular varmint/target shooting, Hornady will work fine. I have about 800-900 collected from factory loads I shot myself and purchased/acquired from other 204 Ruger shooters. Not counting the ones I ruined due to the trial and error setup for case trimming and neck turning I only discarded two (of the 8-900) for having a portion of the neck thickness below 0.011", most all were around 0.012" so they were surprisingly consistent.

I have used a lot of Rem brass and just finished trying out some Nosler brass with great results, plus like the time saving of having the Nosler already prepped and very consistant.I weighted every shell in one box of Nosler and all were within 2 grains of each other. I use BLC2 and Benchmark, both produce desirable results. BCL2 gives me higher velocity, 3720fps avg across 15 shots, with 40gr V-max out of Savage 12FV.
