Having trouble finding a rifle that I like in .204 Ruger....

I've seen Savage, Ruger, Kimber, CZ

Nothing does it for me, can't decide and there doesn't seem to be a huge selection...

Anyone have any recommendations?

My .204 is a Ruger laminate. It is very accurate but very heavy and the scope is 4.5 which is too high so I use it with a tripod. I would like a lighter one.

I have a Remington SPS 700 Varmint in .204, topped with a Bushnell 4200 4-16x40, Talley rings, and Fajen stock. The stock they come with isn't great but very nice gun to shoot with the new stock.

I actually bought it as new-old-stock at the annual gunshow here in Brandon yesterday, of course had to mount it up and try it out immediately. From what I have read Fajen was at one time THE stocks for custom gun builders, but no longer available except for rebranding of some 10/22 stocks. I really like the feel and the weight, good solid coyote gun now. There are lots of other great stocks available though as I was looking before I ran accross this one.

You might want to check out the Savage Model 25. I reloaded some rounds for a friend who bought one and it was amazing. It was very accurate. However, I am not a Savage fan and found some things I didn't like about it but you can't question the accuracy- at least not on that one.
I just bought a Remington 700 SPS in .204 and am waiting for a new 3 x 9 x 50 to mount on it. It seems quite light, stock is ok. It has an XMark trigger which is supposed to be an improvement. I dry fired it and there is no stacking. I would like it lightened though.

I think there are a lot of .204's out there. Just find one that suits your needs. If it turns out you don't like it, I don't imagine you will have trouble selling it.
Just my $.02 worth.

What kind of accuracy are you guys expecting with those Savs & Rems in 204? I've been lacking a walking around V rig for long enough! Wish Tikka would make a standard T-3 in 204 :(
Have to admit that Sav Preditor Hunter looks nice as much as I'm really not a Sav bolt fan.

I recently purchased a Rem 700 SPS stainless, & put a Ledgend 5X15-50 on top, & love it. It is smooth, easy clean trigger pull & almost no recoil. This is the first gun I can see the hole in the paper appear, while still looking through the scope.
The 204 is fun-fun-fun. So far 600yds is the longest sucessfull coyote drop shot. I only tried one past this distance, but missed. Bagged 8 coyotes so far & a couple magpies.
Get the gun that feeles the best to you in your own hands. If you can, try a friends gun first, just don't adjust his scope settings...LOL

And Grtwhthntr, nice new rifle there.

I like the accutrigger on the savage varmint rigs they can be made very light with out the worrie of the gun going off when banged around or dropped.

my savage model 10 predator in .22-250 just put up a nice .8'' 5 shot group at 100yds with hand loads. I dont see why a simular medium/heavy barrel .204 wouldnt do the same or better with hand loads.

I bought a Savage with Accutrigger in .243

Amazing trigger right out of the box, very accurate, fair prices

I'd go Savage for the .204 as well.....but I'd like something different, just because....

Anybody really like CZ???

Cz

I really like CZ I have a 527 varminter...and yes it is a tack driver...(I kNOW EVERYBODY says theres is but hey.....with hand loads.... .3 of an inch at 100 is the norm for this one..... 39gr BKs with reloader 10x or h4895....)

It is nice to carry, very accurate.... and fairly cheap.... I also have a savage thumbhole stock in .204 heavy bbl... It too shoots well, it likes the BKs also......I try to keep my shots with the .204s under 300m... I feel the energy at this range is about as low as i want to go for a shot on a dog.

Anything farther i step up to a custom .22-250AI with 55gr noslers at 4050fps... After that..... .338Lapua AI.....he he:sniper:

I really like CZ, I have the 527 American in a 22 Hornet great accuracy an nice wood. If My 204 Ruger wasn't an H S Precision, I'd have bought the 204 in a CZ that is on the EE.
P&D in Edmonton has a decent selection of 204's in stock, including a used H S varmint with a 6500 scope on top 4.5-30 mildot, for $2999.00. I sure this combo was well over $4000.00 last year when the guy bought it. FS

Which CZ for walking for coyotes and jacks...?
CZ 527 American
or
CZ 527 Varmint

I usually go for the lighter more compact rifles as I walk much more than I shoot. Would I be in for a big difference with the Varmint?

CZ 527 American: 6.3 lbs
CZ 527 Varmint: 7.2 lbs

I love my .204 Model 700 LVSF, real coyote killer and can shoot too. These are some test targets I shot off my truck sighting it in for coyotes. Had I used a bench set up Im sure they would all be better then .50" MOA
