Im looking at getting a savage Model 12FV with AccuTrigger Chambered in .204 Ruger and leupold scope for shooting coyotyes and other varments... Do any of you have any thing to say about eighter?

Good or bad give me all you got..

i just ordered one, better than a .223 for gophers from what ive read (flat shooting, cuts the wind better, less powder means more shots between cooling) and that is going to be my main use. should be good for coyotes out to 300m, but someone else will have to confirm that

less powder? about the same or more powder, it is good on coyotes out to 300
one thing that i notice is that it seems way louder than 222/223 etc

I have a Ruger M77 MkII *Target* in .204....awesome gun, awesome cartridge. Little recoil, awesome results that you can WATCH through your scope. :D Its evaporated more than a few P-dogs last year using 32gr Vmax bullets. I reload them now for about $6.70/20 vs the $17.99/20 I was paying at the store.
I've read about guys using the 40gr Vmaxes on 'yotes with nooo problems.

Heres an actual pic of a .204 hitting a P-dog....gotta love the carnage.

I've used the 204 for hide hunting for coyotes. I originally bought this gun for my longer range sets, I hunt the open country for coyotes, and often I go into areas where I know shots will be over 250. I liked the 40gr Bergers and Vmaxes for their high BC and great downrange performance, but my SPS did not like them. I shot a little over 20 coyotes with this combo and the results were decent. However, I did change bullets to the 35gr Berger which my SPS shoots, "like a house on fire", but the BC on these bullets is poor, and as a result, doesn't have the downrange performance I was hoping for.
I have not been overly impressed with the 35gr Bergers on coyotes, but then I have been comparing their performance of hide saving abilities, to the 17 Remington.
In short, the 204 is a decent round, however, I have not found it to be as fur-friendly as my 17 Remington. At ranges under 200 yds, for saving coyote hides, I've found that whatever the 204 does, my 17 Remington does better.

How are the bullet choices in .204, compared to the .223?
