I just bought a new Tikka lite T3 in a .204 and when I can get some RCBS dies want to start reloading 39gr. Blitz kings...I was thinking of using BL-C(2) for powder...Has anyone had any experiance with this powder in .204?? any other options would be considered I'm sure there are a few....lol

Bl-C2 is the best from my experience. Easy to get into those tiny case mouths..

hint... if you are at you doctor's office, ask him for a couple of his smaller otoscope speculae, those are the black disposable funnel like gizmos they stick on the end of a ear-looker-inner thing. They make SUPER 20 cal powder funnels.

30.3 grains and you're away to the races

GREAT idea on the otoscope speculae I'll have to pick a couple up on my next Doctor visit. I haven't tried BL-C2 yet in the .204 but have heard it is at/near the top of the list for velocity in the .204Rug.

I have tried Varget with good accuracy but I wasn't happy with the velocity, and because it's a .204 I want the velocity!. Also because its a stick powder Varget wasn't as easy to get in a case like TAC, although it wasn't too hard either.

I have some Ramshot TAC, and Vit 140 on hand waiting to be tested but these are for light 30-32gr range bullets. Quickload shows Reloader 10x as a good powder too with a high case fill rate. I have heard Win 748 is a good powder for the 39-45gr range but I'm not partial to winchester powder so haven't tried any. A good place to sponge knowledge from in regards to small calibers like the .204Rug is the saubier Fourms.

I still have a funny feeling when I go from loading .308 sized bullets to the small .204 bullets... can't imagine loading with .17 cal bullets!

If I get my way I may be able to shoot out my factory .204Rug barrel this spring/summer and try one of those Krieger barrels Obtunded offers.

Happy loading and share any good results you have with the 39gr Blitz Kings, I have yet to try them.

I would recommend Redding dies. As for powder, I haven't tried BLC(2) in any of my .204's but it generally does well with small calibers. Check the 204ruger forums for load data and such. Other powders that I have used successfully include H4895, RL10X and W748. Oh, and I'd recommend thick cup primers too, like the Fed 205M or CCI 450.

I have just started using BL-C(2). I have not used 39 SBK's though. I have used 32g SBK'S with 28.5g BL-C(2). These shot .75" at 100y. That was just laying on the bench. That will go smaller when I use my Lead Slead.

I have used BL-C(2) for the following bullets:

32 & 40 grain V-MAX
32 grain SBK'S
40 grain Nosler
35 grain Berger's

I also wat to try Benchmark, I have heard that is less affected by temperature.

BL-C(2) is not a great powder to use unless you want to adjust your scope for temp difference between summer and winter shooting. Use an extreme powder like H4895 and you will have better results year round. I do use BL-C(2) with 40gr Vmaxs in one of my 204s with great results but I only use it for varmint shooting in the spring and summer.

High velocity small bore centerfires like the .204 tend to develop fairly high pressures. The thicker cups will avoid pierce-throughs like maka mentioned he experienced, especially if you're near max loads.

For example, CCI 400 primers have a cup thickness of only .0200", whereas the Rem 7½, CCI 450, and CCI BR4 all have 0.0250" cups. The Fed 205M's are 0.0225.

how about win primers?

I understand the Win Small Rifle (WSR) primers have 0.021" thick cups. Better than either of the CCI 400, Fed 200 or Rem 6 1/2, but not as good as some others (like those earlier mentioned).

I haven't used the WSR for the .204, so all I can say is start low and work your way up when reloading (as with any other cartridge). They would be probably be fine for anything except for really 'warm' loads.

In my 204 I usually shoot 39g SBK's infront of 26.7grs of H4895 or 26grs of benchmark.I have tryed that load in quite a few 204's and have good success in most.Be careful with the 26.7grs of H4895 it is a max load so mabey work up to it.

I love BL-C(2) because it meters so very consistently. Very little trickling, if any. As far as performance goes, I've had no problems with it.

Anybody else find BL C 2 is dirty???

My tikka did not like BL C 2 and 32 g V max loads. 1 1/4 groups.
This is after 1 hole groups with hornady factory ammo and the 32 g V max's

Benchmark is what is am using now.
I will find out more when the warm weather gets here.

Anybody use varget?

Yeah, BLC(2) is a 'dirty' powder.

I tried Varget early on, but didn't have much success. My .308 loves it, however, and since it is pretty hard to get those days, I reserve it for the .308.

Ruger22, I mentioned earlier that I have used Varget and have found it to be rather slow in the .204 although accuracy was decent. I have a bunch of the stuff and would have liked to use it for the 204 but I want/need more speed.. or I might as well just shoot a .223.

I think Benchmark might be a good powder for the .204 if you can find accuracy, what kind of velocity were you getting?
